quick ? about painter 6

ok. i'm trying some color stuff. when in painter 6 and using the simple round water brush....can you set it to where it doesn't start off laying down white before the color starts to appear? does this make any sense? arrrrgh!!!

you are probably refurring to when you add a new layer and try to paint over your painting, but unlike photoshop, where photoshop fades from transparent to the color, painters layers will fades from white to the selected color.

there is a way to fix this problem, if this is your problem great, i am impressed with myslef.

in painters layers window there is a check box named "pick up underlying color", check it on and then try to paint over your layers ...

... i am fairly new with painter but stumbled upon it a while back.

Have you got the update to Painter 6.1 yet if not.. I recomend you uninstall painter.. restart.. reinstall painter.. restart your machine.. install the patch... restart your machine.. and then run painter.. this will get rid of a ton of bugs.. as far as the simple water brush.. I never get any white underneath the color..


This is for the SIMPLE WATER BRUSH-
here are my settings:

Brush Controls:
GENERAL
-Circular
-Single
-Cover
-Flat Cover
-opacity :10-20%

SIZE:
-I use the lower right brush tip
-Min space: 100%
-Size step 5%

SPACING
-Spacing 20%
-min space 1.1%
-Damping 50%

EXPRESSION:
-ALL SET TO NONE Except for OPACITY -Pressure

WELL
-Resat 100%
-Bleed 0%
-Dryout 22000

When installing the Painter 6.1 patch, it's best to use all of the following steps:

1. Move any files you created out of the Painter 6 folders into a backup folder located outside of the Painter 6 folders.

2. Uninstall Painter 6.

3. Manually delete any remaining Painter 6 folders and files.

4. Reboot.

5. Install Painter 6 and don't open it even one time.

6. Install the Painter 6.1 patch.

7. Reboot.

8. Launch Painter 6.1


Any Painter brush that has blending or smearing qualities will leave white at the beginning and ending of the brush stroke and have white edges when painted on a Layer. If there are contrasting colors below the brush stroke, those white areas of the brushstroke will show.

Use Forethought when Choosing a Solution to the White Edges Problem:

Checking the Objects palette's Layers section Pick Up Underlying Colors box is a great solution, as long as you don't plan to ever place other colors below the Layer than those that were present below the Layer when the brushstrokes were made. If the underlying colors are changed, those colors picked up on the Layer from previous underlying color will contrast with the new underlying color.

An alternative method to prevent white in the brush stroke is to go to the Brush Controls palette's Well section and move the Resat slider all the way to the right. This will remove the blending and smearing qualities of the brush variant and cause the brush to paint solid color.

Again, use either of these methods with forethought.
