Chris,
Ridiculously impressive, especially considering how young you are (only 18!!!!). In the future, could you post smaller versions of your work? That way we can get the feel of the whole piece without having to scroll up and down, up and down, up and down. I saw at deviantART that there was a 315px by 615px of this piece. That was a nice size. I still want to see big fat detail shots too, but it is important to see the whole piece at once. Thanks for posting. Welcome to ConceptArt.

This is amazing and I'm not surprised it took 44 hours. I'd say it was worth it. Do you have any in progress shots? I gotta give some constructive criticism since I think most of the comments you are going to get will be pats on the back. The thing running the whole width of the image right in the middle, dividing it in half: I'm confused about whether that's foreground or middle ground. When I first saw it I thought it was the huge thing going across the middle but now I'm wondering if it's something small but very close. I hope it's something huge.

That huge thing dividing the middle is the closest thing in the picture. It's about 20 - 30 feet infront of the ship. I got lots of progress shots. I'l try and put up some. I am still working on the sky and fixing things before I sell it as a print. I know the ships engines don't look round and the perspective is off. THose are things i am just gioing to let go because mistakes are all part of becoming a good artist. IT's good to look back on my mistakes and see how I have grown as a artist. Thanks for commmenting

I'm not sure why, but the girder looks like it is behind the ship and huge to me. My only other criticism is that the light created by the sparking cable doesn't suit its source.
Other than that, fantastic.

Wow, the whole layout just says "Movie Poster", the colors seriously remind me of the early Star Trek movie posters from the 80's.
Nice job! :chug:

Wow awesome! The ship taking off actually seems to be the closest which also forms a very good focus in the picture. That spark on the bridge tends to be a little distracting, also because of its smooth shiny surface. I really enjoy the details you have put in. Nice works you have on the site too.
How many photoshop layers ? 356
How big is the file ? 753 megs omg whats your comm to handle such a big file?

I really like your picture. Especially the smoke and the clouds. But how did you do the fire effect on the right side?
Would be nice to know :)

Some fantastic work in the execution and love the direction that you are heading in. My only 'issue' is from a compositional point of view, it is difficult to understand the space within the image. As a couple of other people have mentioned, it is confusing what is foreground and middle ground and how things are layered.
One reading to could the ship doing a vertical take off into a horizontal girder. The extreme foreground (both left and right), and the way the ground/smoke is where the ship is taking off, it creates a weird space almost fighting with perspective to see how objects related to one another.
The image is kinda busy and it is difficult for the eye to wonder through it - every detail is competing with one another. The horizontal girder splits the image into two and I'm not sure that works.
You've obviously put alot of work into it but what is the main focus of this piece? Use light to try to highlight the focus, leading you eye into it, and darkening/blurring out the extra detail that add to the image to make it convincing.
Hopefully that was helpful.

Thanks everyone for the helpful comments.
The main focuse is the ship on the bottom. I wanted to put in a ton of details cause this is my last painting with tons of details. I have so much to learn! The middle structure going across the screen is big, but not has big as those buildings in the back. I am just going to let most of the mistakes go. The fire and some lighting effects I have fixed but everything esle is going to be left as it is because I want to look back and see how much I have improved over time. I still can't believe how good some of you are! It's mindblowing . I have been drawing for 2 years and I wish I would of started earlier because then I would be a lot better. I feel kinda behind.... thats why I am working extra hard to become good. I really want to do this for a living! Again, Thank you for taking time out of your busy life to help me out. Bye!

One more thing, those 2 fighters/ships @ the top of the image, are they insipired from Homeworld? They bear a striking resemblance, especially in the wake pattern.

the most interesting piece you have posted so far chris. the details are well done and let the eyes wander around with pleasure. as matt said, you could have defined the foreground/background difference a bit more. it's a bit messy at the end, but it remains a very fine artwork for a lot of reasons.
