Hello there,
I've been lurking here for some time now, just to get a feel for the place, and I've been very impressed indeed by what I've seen. There's some awesome work on show here...
Here's some recent work i did for Sabertooth Games, for the Warcry CCG:

Great texture and lightning.
You have very well rendered the dark atmosphere.

your name sounds eerily familiar, perhaps one of the many art geeks I've worked with has shown me your work before. anyhow it's hard to crit someone once they start workin pro like that, nice to see a different style/feel to things. just one question: what exactly is that evil pooch doin to the dwarf back there?:D just kiddin, is that all digital? it's so thick

Wow. Fast responses! Thank you!
Yeah, this is all digital. I work with some traditionally made textures which are laid in at intervals, or sometimes just used as a base for the work. I just upgraded from Painter CLassic (ver1) to Painter 8, so that's been fun. Upgraded my machine form a G3 iMac to a G5, so that's been even more fun...;) If a little pricey...
Who knows, at some point i may even trade in my 4x5 Graphire for something swisher...(is that even a word? Swisher? More swish?) :)

These are really friggin awesome. I enjoy the really bizarre atmosphere effect on the second one. I take it in the first one the dwarf and hell doggies are in fierce battle but it looks very still and it looks like the dwarf is attempting to feed his hand to the dog. The swinging beard helps give us the idea that he's snapping his head around.

i love these. The color usage and grainy air around gives a feel of an old movie, you know, when the first color ones were just arriving. GOOD JOB.

The second piece is by far my favorite. I think perhaps the dwarf piece is a bit too red for my taste, but as for the second image... I love the angry sky and the central composition. And I'll say it, those soldiers just kick ass!
Welcome aboard! I'm a newbie too, btw. :D

Nice website by the way. We'd love to see some of your abstract stuff too.

I like the Skaven (the creatures in the second image) picture the best, but i thought Skaven was copyrighted by games workshop. Is sabertooth doing stuff for them? Just curious.
Great work.

Thanks once more for all the comments and the warm welcome!
For reference, Sabertooth Games is now owned by Games Workshop, and produce their CCGs: Warcry (the Warhammer CCG), WH40k CCG and Horus Heresy CCG)
Thanks for the comments on the website. It's badly in need of an update, but i'm unlikely to find the time to sort it out for a little while, so it has to stay as is for now! But I'm glad you like it. I'll see about scanning some abstracts for future postings, if people are interested.
The static-ness of the dwarf has been picked up on previously...I generally need to work on my depiction of action, as it's not a strong area in my work right now. I hampered myself here somewhat in the composition, amongst other areas.
Cheers!

I particularly like the second one. The atmosphere is great, and I like how the sky "reflects" what's going on below. What kind of skull is on the standard?

Hey Jon, great to see you showing your work here and getting the praise you deserve! You know I love all of your stuff but I reckon these would be my favourite I have seen, I love the dwarf and the colors are awesome. Teach me master, teach me!

Thanks for the additional comments!
Indeed these were both done in Painter 8. Having a lot of fun with gel layers at the moment.
As to doing more olde worlde houses, it really depends what I get told to do. I wish i had more time to mess around with my on stuff. But I don't :(
Stormy: I'm guessing it's some kind of deer skull...I'm not entirely sure to be honest...:) The Skaven (the featured creatures) have a whole religion based around the Horned Rat, so I felt the antler topped standard was appropriate.
And hi to Lee...a familiar face...nothing to teach that isn't in there to see, mate. And not master! Inattentive pupil!
