Beautiful studies, you have a great control over volume and light. I especially like how much solid your photo studies look, they really manage to pop out of the screen, which is very hard to achieve when using photos.

hey :)
really nice studies from life but try to tick a clear edges and change the brush because all object look the same(texture)
and brigdman... i think it's waste of time to copy and paste to your sketch. Try to use the schemata/techniques from book to simplify human structure when you drawing from life or photo
cheers dude and keep it up!

Artpole - Thank you very much for visiting my sketchbook so often and for all the nice words.
alexson - Thank you, will try, will try.
[ste] - Thanks man!
kojot - Thank you very much for your comment. I completely agree with you that everything has the same texture feel,
I'm trying to find that middle point between custom brushes and the standard round brush, so I'm slowly cutting down on custom brushes.
And the Bridgman studies are just a practice for sketching with pencil.
Anatomy studies, more to come soon.

Danny_K - Sveiks, pasaule patiešām ir maza. :)
Life is crappy here because of the messed up economy, and now with the huge dept and with a noticeable part of the population who have good education and experience in their field leaving the country it will take some time get this place back to civilization, but thats it, the thing about riots was just blown out of proportion by our mediocre news media. There was one "big" in Riga back in January 08, which they made it sound like half the city was burned to the ground, but it was just some 200+ drunk school kids breaking few windows.
conte - Thanks man, love your work.
BlackDelphin Yeah, its a great little photo set, but it would be much more helpful have a real cast head like the one Dave has, but no one sells them here and posting from online stores to my corner of the world costs x2 more than the damn head it self. >:D
vanaga - Paldies, paldies, visi darbi, izņemot dažas skices, photošopā cs3 zīmēti.
I have been mostly working on anatomy studies, but still need to finish some of them before posting,

almost pooped and gave me a nasty infection, so here is almost finished study I did before my little adventure.

Fast recoveries for you my friend and should you get back delighting us with your colorful arts in no time! :)

Great cast shadow study! I always like these values studies that you do. Have a nice..idk in english..
that line between the very lit and shadow area, the more saturated one.
The geisha study looks good too, though I'm not so sure these crisp hard edges
all over work with her delicate figure. Particularly around the neck.
That white should be powder, no? - It looks very solid as it it.
Hope you are all well now Emil. :)

Sveiks!

Myllys - Thank you, I spent way too much time on them, something around 5 to 6 hours, but most off the time was wasted on unimportant details.
BlackDelphin - Yeah I'm like a little child when it comes to brushes- if I find a new brush that I like I will use it non stop on painting, usualy it dosent end well.
I completely agree with you, there way to many sharp edges in that painting, I will probably work on it more.
LAL - Thanks man.
kingkostas - Thanks mate, glad you like them.
vanaga - Paldies, pilnīgi piekrītu kritikai, bišku visu sasteidzu tapēc arī rezultāts tāds švakāks.

Icecold - Yeah, I was planing to give painter another go, tried it a long time ago and didn't really like it, but it was when I was just learning to paint, so I really had no Idea what I was doing back then.
BlackDelphin - It's my new favorite brush that I used in that last painting and in most of the new ones. Its a big soft brush made of many tiny sharp dots, so the color stays sharp, but edges are nice and soft.
I was longing for a brush like this one for a long time, but always all the soft brushes made the colors look muddy and plus they had a nasty digital feel to them. I never use smudge tool, Its always custom brushes.
cgaddict - Thanks for droping by!
RBeek - Thank you very much! :teeth:

Sorry for not visiting this sketchbook earlier.
I feel a bit ashamed. Your skills are, much above
than anyone could wish for himself.
Can you please share some tutorials, links
or something about oil paintings with me, cause
your paintings are fascinating.

but I would like to learn paint with that technique on

thanks for visiting me Emil, have to say i love what i see.. you have a great control on volume and lighting. There´s nothing bad in paint from photos, just keep saturating the tones a bit. Sometimes i see there are a bit pale colors, in photostudies overall. Also i like a lot your textures& brushstrokes.
kep up the awesome work

BlackDelphin - Thanks :}, I really tried to keep a good balance between hard and soft brush strokes on that geisha study.
Yeah, that link is great, they have really nice collection of casts, it's just a shame that the head casts are so awful and disturbing.
SnobbyOo Thanks man. :hatsoff:
Fetsch Thanks mate, as you see not so good.:dad:
LtPlissken Thank you very much for all the kind words, I'm definitely not at a level where I should be making tutorials, my skills and knowledge are not there jet.
When it comes to oils I would just suggest starting simple, little still lifes or some environments from life. Buy a set of cheap oils at the beginning and just experiment,
they take time to get used to, especially when you come from digital background, and use big brushes in the beginning with thick strokes of oil.
maninmoon1 - Thanks, I will. :rendered:
LAL - Thank you, those cast studies definitely helped, but I dont feel that my progress is good enough.
Ricardo Robles - Thank you Ricardo, colors are definitely one of my many weak points, I never cant seem to get them bright and lush enough, they just end up muddy and stiff.
Anatomy studies from ImagineFX, new cast study from the same site as the last two,
and unfinished version of train wreck that is my pinocchio illustration, colors and composition are just a mess, so I won't waste more time on that damm thing.

Hey man, thanks for stopping by my thread earlier, really made my day. Totally admire your work. Lovely anatomy studies in the latest post, very analytical.
The pinochio pic is obviously not a trainwreck at all, reminds me of Vermer with the soft light and the palette. Maybe try pushing the blue in order to get the complementery color conversation going more heh..
Anyways, very cool, keep posting!

Pinocchio is looking through the window, and he is
thinking with his wooden brain.
Tonight he is going to paint the town in red.
He well take a sharp kitchen knife and go out to
shed some human skin.
Geppetto has already been chopped
up to pieces, and his flesh is hanging in the attic,
His bones are being cooked up in a huge rusty boiler.
"Ah, what a beautiful and happy world this is"-
says Pinocchio to himself as he stares through the snowy
window, with his plastic sugary eyes.

i really like that bird photostudy ALOT! Especially with the brush that you chose to do it with.
One good thing to do is to check your image without color. I dont think you're quiet getting in your darkest darks in your shadowed areas. IM finding that alot of it is falling in the midrange still. If you simplify your value scheme to 3 or 4 values and focus on making your edge types (soft, hard, lost) distinct things will pop more.
Keep it up. i defenitely like what you're doin here!

Cool sketchbook. I really like lots of focus on texture in your studies. It really makes your paintings lively.
I don't see much personal/imagination work though. Creating your own pieces goes way beyond just technical skill or just observation so I wouldn't neglect that part (unless observation painting is your primary goal). Also the tightest anatomy study won't do much if you don't really test your knowledge. Of course you might just not post much of that on the web but it's always cool to see how studies affect the way you draw :).

Your still lifes are really beautiful; I especially like the blue vase painting in post #115 (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showpost.php?p=2917408&postcount=115). The textures you're applying definitely give your work a uniquely tactile look. I do think you should apply them with a tad more reservation though; sometimes it comes off as a bit distracting, particularly when applied to background elements that would be best not calling attention away from the focus of the piece. In the pinocchio painting, for example, the texture on the wall in the back is a bit distracting, and it makes the image look over-sharpened. And this might just be personal taste, but I think the texture would be a bit more impressive if it were only used more sparingly (kind of like how highlights and highly saturated colors lose their value when they're overused in an image). Anyway, keep up the good work; I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll be up to next ;)
