Hey guys, happy new years to you all :) i stumbled upon ca.org a couple weeks back but i've only been lurking around, considering whether or not i should make a sb - and here i am, with a new years resolution ;)

my name's stephanie and i'm 15 (16 in three months! wahoooo) steph or amarone//ama is fine, though. i've always loved to draw for as long as i can remember, although personally - and my friends agree - i haven't really hit any drawing "milestones" until around 7th grade - that is, people could actually look at my drawings and figure out what i was trying to do... i never had any drawing lessons except a creative arts class throughout middle school but it was mostly just a free drawing period with various mediums, nothing like an actual lesson/class. i have big dreams for an artistic career, i'd love to work in the entertainment industry/video-game concept artist.

i got my wacom tablet at the end of march 2009 so going digital is still fairly new to me. i was entirely traditional - mostly pencilwork - before. i started from anime which progressed to anime/real life which progressed to comic?/real-life. i don't really sketch or do studies at the moment-part of my resolution for this sketch book is to actually make it a sketch book ;)...most of the stuff i do right now i aim to finish. that fact + no formal lessons probably explains my difficulties with anatomy and rendering. imo i do very well drawing directly aka "copying" from reference but when it comes to my imagination i spend a good amount of time getting anatomy and colors right. i'm actually hoping for some deep/even harsh crit here, i welcome them and will appreciate them very much ♥

the following stuff i will be posting in a few will be mostly finished works from the past few months :) the pic right below is something i'm working on right now.

You definitely have some good things going for you here. The bold use of colors and some design elements are definitely worth further exploration. Good things! Now just hang on to these pluses and really build a solid foundation in drawing and painting. After you understand how to communicate form w/ light and color - you can experiment with crazy compositions and designs. Good luck!

struve - thanks!

Chaser226 - thank you! yes, i try to go for unique concepts and one of my favorite (and most dreaded, hehe..) part of any piece is coloring it in. You're absolutely right in the fact that i need to build a strong foundation - I think I've been skipping way ahead to things that I don't fully understand yet. With this sketchbook I hope to build that foundation.

i figure i'm gonna start with some real life/still life studies... values only for now.

Good attitude! Drawing spheres (or an apple) is very fundamental indeed.
Learn what Core Shadow (inconsistent and hard to read), Form Shadow, and Reflected Light (missing in the drawing).
