Team Dust Bunnies picks:
+ extra: Tower and Lovers if we have enouth time
Ace of Swords, Ten of swords
+ extra: Princess of Wands and Knight of Cups if we have enouth time.
Ill start with my personal favorite the Empress
Some recurring keywords are:
* Mothering ----- Fertility ----- Sexuality ----- Abundance
* Material prosperity ----- Pleasure ----- Comfort ----- Power
* Nature ----- Delight ----- Desire ----- Physical attraction
* Health ----- Sensuality ----- Beauty ----- Satisfaction
The Empress sits on a throne wearing a starry crown, holding a scepter in one hand. The Scepter is representative
of her power over life, her crown has twelve stars representing her dominance over the year, and her throne is in the
midst of a field of grain, representative of her dominion over growing things.
Our aim is to make high Fantasy character designs with some oriental mood.
here are few poses and sketches

sweet, love those sketches :o
January 6th, 2010, 02:16 PM
I like your idea behind the team chow. Your main goal is the design, which is of course the most important aspect. Nice job with those sketches. I like number 3 and 4 most!
January 7th, 2010, 04:16 AM
* Materialism ----- Ignorance ----- Stagnation ----- Self bondage
* Lust ----- Egoism ----- Obsession ----- Anxiety ----- Anger
* Ganance ----- Hedonism ----- Passion ----- Animal instincts
* Sexuality ------ Temptation ----- Lack of faith ----- Vice
* Futility ----- Physical attraction ----- Pessimism ----- mistakes
Please remember that all Tarot decks used for divination are interpreted according to personal experience and standards.
The Devil is the card of self-bondage to an idea or belief which is preventing a person from growing or being healthy—an example might be a belief that getting drunk each night is good for you. On the other hand, however, it can also be a warning to someone who is too restrained and/or dispassionate and never allows him or herself to be rash or wild or ambitious, which is yet another form of enslavement.
The Devil is the 15th card of the Major Arcana, and is associated with earth and Capricorn. Though many decks portray a stereotypical Satan figure for this card, it is more accurately represented by our bondage to material things rather than by any evil persona. It also indicates an obsession or addiction to fulfilling our own earthly base desires. Should the Devil represent a person, it will most likely be one of money and power, one who is persuasive, aggressive, and controlling. In any case, it is most important that the querent understands that the ties that bind are freely worn.
Basically, I'm doing this just because the Tarot deck is just richly inspirational to draw. to be able to get the chance to design and envision them without sacrificing the intent of the cards to interpret circumstances via symbolism, well, that's my goal. sketches and ideas coming next :)

Janos Thanks! Posting few more now.
rumpenstiltzkin Thanks friend.
more empress thumbz
and 10 of swords sketches
In its upright or positive light, the ten of swords represents absolute destruction, being pinned down by a multitude of things or situations. The person lying on the ground, defeated and bleeding, may also represent a feeling of hopelessness and being trapped by emotions or mental anguish, since swords represent strife and the mind.
The Ten of Swords is the most grim card in the deck, more destructive and reminiscent of death than the Death card itself. Again, the dark clouds depicted above the person signify despair and a terribly bleak situation. However, upon closer examination of the images in the card, any real death or destruction, like all things, may not be permanent. There is hope regardless of the situation: the golden sky in the distance suggests that this is the worst the querant's situation could possibly be, and that things will only improve.
In the card's reversed state, it symbolizes a troubling situation that will continue for a significant amount of time. The card suggests that the subject should not despair in difficult times, to avoid ruining future prospects for success.

January 9th, 2010, 11:17 AM
Nice ideas Alex, get back to you at YM a bit on.
It's really fun to see how other people think creatively and work processes as well. You gotta love team chow for this! I don't do sketches as often and this has worked for me in the past. I see what I have in mind clearly and paint my way into a piece as I progress. Hope this makes sense.
my progress so far, lotsa stuff to do yet, just sharing :)
January 9th, 2010, 02:48 PM
Looking great, especially the tummy!
January 9th, 2010, 05:44 PM
Thanks Janos! I hope you'll like more parts soon other than the tummy LOL :D
progress...added horns and wing-like wings?
when's the deadline for team chow?...oh well
will try to finish this by the weekend so we have a shot at doing the extras(yum yum)
January 9th, 2010, 06:38 PM
That is just awesome. I like the long neck more and the colourscheme on the right. But I find the wing tips coming into the image disturbing. They do not add anything. I say leave them out! :D

more inane doodles and composition, moving onto my next assignment, The Ace Of Swords.
Key Words for the Ace of Swords:
The ace of swords Tarot card meaning has to do with aligning yourself. Visually, this card is clearly making a statement of solidarity. When we see the strength of that sword standing erect in the center of this card, there is no doubt in our mind that we must focus upon the issues at hand (indicated by surrounding cards) and make our stand.
Often the ace of swords Tarot card meaning deals with gaining clarity in our lives after a long bout of disillusionment. Often this card appears in matters of love when the ties need to be cut in a relationship. This is particularly the case in one-sided relationships where the partner requires (excessively so) more of attention than you.
This confirms the ace of swords meaning as this card signals its beaming light to you. This card cries out "this is your time, the focus is on you!" But what kind of focus?
The suite of swords in a Tarot deck deals with thoughts, and awareness. They've also been identified as symbols of challenges or conflict in our lives. Thoth Tarot, the Ace of Swords Tarot Card Meaning Aces in the Tarot deck indicate new beginnings. They are also power cards, and rank high in the trumping factor in a reading, their power weighing in evenly with Major Arcana cards.
This being the case, we can make a simple assessment that the ace of swords Tarot card meaning is symbolic of uncovering a new way of thinking. Or, cutting away at some old thought to make way for a brighter perspective.
More specifically, the ace of swords is a call to stop fooling ourselves and look into the crux of the matters of our soul. The ace of swords is bright and brassy. There is no room for excuses with this card, and it demands full honesty of the querent in a reading.
This card resonates to the vibrational frequency of the number one, not only because it is the beginning of the suite (ace), but also because the erect sword visually mimics the number one. This means that new projects, ideas, thoughts, or relationships are on the horizon. Due to the sharp nature of this card, you had better be mindful and clear about your intentions first before starting these new ventures.
meaning copied from some site, i'm a lazy bum.

Artofinca : I'm diggin' your empress. I had a suggestion though : there actually is an "empress" butterfly, why not use it as a part of the dress-gear ?
I quite like the blue you've chosen for that part of the costume, so I don't know how you'ld feel about changing the palette to fit the Empress Leilia butterfly wings, but maybe you could just duplicate the patterns and keep the blue hue.
It's a part of the Emperor butterfly family (one of which has blue wings, another purple-blue) so I'm thinking you've probably done your research and are already aware of all of this hehe.
I'm nothing of a lepidopterologist but hey, maybe this helps !

January 22nd, 2010, 09:49 AM
Dwinbotp, great work man. Glad to see you're not limiting yourself with two cards. Specially the horse in your Death card looks amazing, it has Boris Vallejo quality.
Artofinca, love the Empress and I'm glad to see your idea on the knight of Cups, it looks like a dragon he's on:).
January 22nd, 2010, 03:35 PM
Matte Art Thanks bro! Happy you like our stuff so far :)
Rumpenstiltskin LOL :D I was aiming for someone near Adam Sandler though, just kidding. I'll take that as a compliment.
Tommoy Thank you man, I was inspired by your Tower that I decided to throw a version of mine.Not a done deal but it'll be soon. I kinda made a New Year's Resolution(corny! i know!) to paint a whole deck by the end of this year, who knows? :)
Alex and I have been busting balls doing extras right now and a freaky frame for all the finished pieces. Thanks for the support guys, we appreciate it a lot! Hope you like!!!

January 26th, 2010, 06:06 PM
some wip fun before mi kimosabe and I post our finals soon.
P.S. Psst, Alex, can you edit your previous posts, they're waaay damn huge LOL
January 26th, 2010, 08:39 PM
dwinbotp : First of all let me say I'm pleased to see you've modified your original "death" : this version is much more interesting to me. The horse's skull, horns, done away with the hood. I like it, quite like the direction you've taken with the armour as well. Much prefer it hehe.
The reason I am posting though is that I see anatomy issues popping out that seem to be hindering me from appreciating the piece fully. So I thought I'ld try and mention them, help make this pic kick ass. But then figured the easiest way would be to do a quick paint over to show you what I meant 'cause lingo ain't always the clearest or easiest way to go. Hope you don't mind.
Ok what jumps out at me the most at the moment is how short the horse-body is and how the hind legs are placed in a fashion/angle that to my eye don't match up with the front part of the "horse". It feels short and twisted, with the ass popping to far out and the knees clinging together in a manner unbefitting Death hehe *I've drawn up a quick pose in pink that I think might work (but there are probably loads of variations you could come up with).
Also, the muscles on the front of the horse don't seem to be aligning just quite right down the center line. The human navel seems to be just slightly to our right when compared the center of the human rib-cage and to the center of where the horse muscles should line up. It's not a major issue but following his contours it feels slightly off at the moment, to me at any rate. Also his right shoulder (to our left) might be a little off under that armour but I think that's just the way I read it : the armour hides most of that arm so it all boils down to how I interpret what might be under there. *I put all of this in light blue.
And my last comment is more a question of personal taste I suppose, since who is to say what centaur-like creatures would really look like right ? Basically I find the human part of the character to be a touch too large for the horse part. If you compare his forearm to the front legs for instance it starts seeming slightly ungainly to me. Of course I also understand that the interesting part to work on is probably the top part, and that by making it larger you get to draw more attention to it so I don't think this is a major issue.
Hope you don't mind me goin' over your piece. And that some of this helps !! :)
January 26th, 2010, 10:25 PM
Thanks Rambozo for taking the extra time to do a paintover on it. I'm really grateful and it shows a lot of good points. On the flip side, my Death piece is already finished...a few weeks back,hehehe. and mostly the fault lies with the lighting in front for the alignment and the horse refs i chose was too fat to start with hahaha, but it fits the purpose i was going for in the first place. Too many times we see the Death card as a knight in black armour riding the pale horse, this spin is just my sweet way of changing it :) I hope when we finally post the final ones with our frames in, they all look just a tad bit better. Many thanks man! See you on the finish line :)

Hadn't even visited this tread yet, there's some great art here. Especially liked your initial sketches on page 1. It's so cool to see the various stages that these works go through.
January 27th, 2010, 08:55 AM
some progrezz on knight of cupz and 9 of coins
January 30th, 2010, 07:07 AM
Really good! You inspired me! I have a feedback for you on the last one. The head looks really small you must take care of the proportions more. Otherwise I like some of the initial designs more than the finished like the Centaur - Death. It is superb! Very artistic look on them. The Athmosphere is incredible. I am a fan! Go go guys you have a talent!
