Hello all! Ive lurked for a long time but I finally got up the nerve to post something. Ive been out of drawing for over a decade and finally got the bug back, partly due to these forums. While I consider myself a mediocre artist, I do aspire to greater things so I throw myself, and my art, on your mercy.
Please critique my first piece and tell me how I can improve. This was my very first try at coloring in Photoshop7, and was done with Mouse and keyboard. This was originally shown in doodles section, but I finished coloring it.
I messed around with some of the PS filters just to get some different looks, but mostly it was hand painted.

hm well improve....
you could start by throwing the computer out of the window and go to the local library and borrow some fundamental art books that extends your field in some way.
PERHAPS start with anatomy.
AND also my advice would be study the natural media BEFORE taking on the computer.
I think it would help alot.

i agree with molin, lots of underexperienced artists make the mistake of believing that running to the computer automatically makes them a badass, also they usually don't sketch before they do the finished piece-
in ure case u seem to be afraid to get dark or "untidy" so everything ends up looking flat, u need to really get in there in the creases and crevices and just go dark, it gives the illusion of depth, also, by "untidy" i mean u worry too much about painting within the lines, lack of experimentation with different line weights and brush sizes, it helps work look less stiff and bland ya know?
well anyway, its a good start, good that u finally posted something =) don't stop drawing, practice makes perfect.
