Hi guys, I've been a long time lurker, but Lord Cypher (my good friend) has finally convinced me to start posting up here.

Basically, I'm looking for advice and crits from all you talented people out there. Don't hold back, if something looks wrong, please tell me! It's the only way I'll learn.

I have a problem finishing stuff, so I'm hoping that I'll get the motivation to do that if I have the pressure of the community, like I do in my day job.

Any who, here are a few picks of the Monkey God I started a few days ago, only just started being happy with the pose which was looking really stale. There's nothing like throwing the armature around a bit to get some life back into something eh!

Eventually, I'd want him to be kitted out in suitable "God" stuff. Head dress, necklace, mace, you know the sort of thing.

Thanks to everyone in advance :)

He's about 150mm, in Beau Touche plasteline.

Lookin' good. Really nice musculature. Will you be moulding this one? Looking forward to seeing him with his accesories! I trust you'll be covering his monkey member!

This guy has a human abdomen. Do you want that?

I really like what you have done here. Really cool. I wonder the direction you are going with it. What I mean is, if he is to have hair; then it might be prudent to not have the muscles so defined, for they will be largely hidden by the hair. Or, if he is going to be more like human, then keep it the way it is. Just my take, there are a few other posts here that have done great things with Apes that you can take a look at.

M8 you are way too hard on yourself, this is most awesome:)

I think the anatomy is fantastic, and the pose is very animated looking.
It may not be anatomically correct for a gorilla, but who cares! he's a god, he can have any body he frigging wants:D:D
I only wish I had the skills to create such a charismatic creature

Glad LC threw you in the fire, looking forward to seeing more of your stuff:)

Since my family only recently came down out of the trees, the whole ape thing is near and dear to me. Loved a monster magazine as a kid, that had pic's of the King Kong movie, that thrilled my dark little heart. Your ape has that same fear inducing effect on me. Great movement. You can see what he is going to do next. I like the dark pic that you did.Has that same feel as that old mag.
Great work.

The idea itself is awesome and you certainly made a creation that matches the title. As for making any changes, I say leave it as is, no need for drastic changes it looks great now. Only thing I could say as far as making him look more 'god-like' is to give him a cool scar, preferably on his face (but not too generic). Maybe even brand him with a cool sliced in tattoo. Whatever you decide, I am sure it'll be sick anyway. Good luck Man.

Hi everyone, thanks to all of you for making me so welcome here for starters, and thanks for all the feedback.

Thanks to Joshua for the gorilla refs, you were right, he needed more protrusion in the abdomen, think i could maybe go further with it.
Thanks to thatsmyboyblue, I think I see this dude as a really short haired kind of beast, maybe I'll sculpt in some tufts in some areas, I want to keep the chest and abdo hairless so that might only register in the paintjob.

I suppose I see this dude as a kind of highly evolved gorilla, kind of evolved missing link between man and ape. So being the biggest, baddest and smartest ape of his tribe he gets to be the boss.
I want to get some sort of devolved Aztec/Inca stuff going on, hence the head dress, which I only just realised, with only two feathers kind of looks bunny ears!!! Must resolve!!
I'm trying to create a primitive carved wood effect with the "monkey mask" think I went a bit too far with the "grain" maybe try knocking it back with lighter fluid and see if that helps.

Thanks again to all,

Wicked concept! Gorillas have always scared me, and your sculpture does the same... in a good way :) Great work! The pose is superb.

The skin is looking really good already! Is that one base color? I'm interested to see what kind of color palette you come up with. I mean, they used vibrant colors and gold to decorate their leaders, so it'll be interesting to see what you decide on.

As for the feathers, It would look amazing if you just left them there and added a few more. Maybe outline the headdress. It does kind of look like bunny ears :)

Yeah, the Aztec were never shy about adding more feathers.
