I have a publisher for one of my graphic novels I wrote. So, I'm about 99.9% sure I can get these other ones published. I am financing this out of my own pocket and I could use a really talented comic book artist, who has a great attitude and is fast. And most importantly, someone who when they say they'll have the work done on Tuesday at 3pm it gets done then not Thursday at 9pm.

Here are the details. 125 pages, the deadline: 90 days. Ink and/or color would be great. The style is more Marvel Comics/ DC Comics.

Here's the deal: even though I have a very small budget ($400 total for the project), this is a great opportunity for those who want to break into the industry. I have a lot of connections in the book publishing and film industries and especially with literary agents. I would like a long term relationship with several artists because I have quite a few projects.

I'll tell you all about the storyline if you're cool with the terms. The best way to reach me is to email me at: mrjeffrivera@yahoo.com

Comics artists usually need a day to finish a page, since you're restricting this to artists who have to do almost page and a half a day you're offering 4.45 for a day's work over three months.

Even for the talented artists (or spam job searchers like azee) working out of third world situations, this is pretty small compensation.

I suggest you approach a few of your book and film industry connections to drum up a more substantial investment in your potential graphic novels. There have been many threads in the employment discussion about how much comics artists expect to get paid, but, you can save yourself much trouble by thinking how much you need to survive on a daily basis and using that as a starting point for employing someone with a specialized skill set.

Best of luck with your projects,

~Richard

The sad thing is, is that there's *someone* who'll do it for $4 a page.

I'd love to break into the industry, but it takes me at least a day to do a comic page, with only ink and toning much less color. I couldn't meet that deadline and I sure couldn't live off of 4 dollars a day. Sorry, but good luck.

Sure, someone will SAY they will do it for $4 a page BUT...

... will they finish the project or flake out once they realize how much work they are putting in?

... will they put in an honest effort, or do a rush job to try to make it "worth it"?

... will the artists that agree to work for $4 a page be anything anyone would want to read?

Don't get me wrong, mrjeffrivera is offering more money than many start ups offer. I'm not attacking the offer really, as he's making an effort to pay, and his budget is his budget. I'm just suggesting that for what he has to work with, he'd probably get better results by scaling back what that $400 goes towards. Also, if he really has a good chance to get this published, there's no need to fund this out of pocket. Publisher's pay, and most (for graphic novels) don't need to see a finished product to make a decision.

Yeah, you will have a hard time finding someone who will do it for $4 per page and even if you did, they usually just give up after 20 pages and you will end up wasting more money in the end. The quality of the work will also suffer due to the fact that you will only attract beginner artist with $400 for 125 pages.
