I'm in 2nd year of a computergame course and have been studying Max and want to get into the games industry etc etc...

I have been put on a list of 10 students whol Jagex.com are interested in. They mainly make the apparantly popular online Java game "runescape".

The thing is, the graphics look really lame (suppose they have to be for java games)

So I suppose the question is...is ANY kind of games work better than none?, would a future employee look at it and think better or worse of me for picking such a place?

I HAVE to apply for it for my uni to keep looking for places, part of me think its worth making a bad application in hope of them getting a company for me who actually make a full proper game (no matter how rubbish) ...of course I am also looking myself and applying to a large list of companies...which in the uni plcement contract is against the rules.

Any thoughts?, from ex placement employes to employers?

capone-

The way I look at it is this way. Firstly, unless your a friggin amazing 2D Artist/3D artist, your gonna find it difficult to break into the Gaming industry. I'm still looking and I've been out of school for over a year. Of course send out to the best companies, but be realistic also. Not only are you going up against those you graduated with, but your also going up against industry proffesionals with tons of experience. Why am I saying all of this? Because in my opinion, you have to start somewhere and some work/experience, no matter how trivial it seems is better than no work/experience.

Good Luck man I wish you the best.

Thanks,

My main concern was that I would be so gutted if after I got the placement someone better offered me it. Anyway, Jagex came over to do a presentation to our students...showing no emotion towards videogames and trying to get students interested in doing customer support!...right at the end someone asked about art jobs and they said they only have art jobs for graduates...

Oh well..got another 17 odd on a list to mass mail...
