Hi!
I'm still an artist in the process of learning. I have hopes of one day getting into the film industry, but that's far away.
Anyways... Here's my sketchbook! Constructive criticism welcome!

I finished this today, started it yesterday. It is a sketch/observation of Neytiri from Avatar, which is a movie I totally adore!
As you can see, I'm not very good with backgrounds, so I tried to keep it kinda loose and sketchy.
Drawn on paper and colored in Photoshop.
I tried to add more hair in Photoshop, but since it wasn't there in the original drawing it ended up looking like she was wearing a wig. :\

Hi, there!
My first suggestion: resize Lady Blue in the second post, there... it's easier for people to critique if they don't have to scroll too much to see an image! My second suggestion: never forget that everything, even people, is made up of 3D shapes, not flat outlines. Right now, I see more outline than shape. But that's just MHO...
Keep at it!

Hey, thanks for your advice!
I'm actually in the process of learning to draw skeletons consisting of basic shapes and use them to gain dimentionality to my drawings. :)
Here's an example:

Maria Mena (Norwegian Pop star):
I kinda went back to drawing outlines on this one, because I found it hard to find an 'inherent' skeleton in the pose. But as you can see, I used color to indicate shadow.

Here's one I did today that I'm really pleased with. I had trouble drawing Ney'tiri's head from the particular angle, so I envisioned her head as a cube, basically. It helped alot!
I didn't clean up any construction lines on this image for reference;

Hi. You will have to practice a-lot from now on. Do not do only three poses daily from posemaniacs... do 50 of them daily or even more. Your lines are shaky and insecure, you have to draw , draw and draw, almost no matter what you just pick an object around you and try to draw it. Get that into your everyday practice and you will get to the next level in no-time.

Quick sketch of Beyoncé.
LtPlissken: I get what you're saying. Unfortunately I'm trying to concentrate on many facets of art. I also don't really have the time to do 50 sketches a day except in the weekends. But thanks!

Christina Aguilera. Experimented with charcoal.
Face ended up being slightly charicatured, but overall I'm pretty pleased with this

Study, study, practice, practice. You'll get there. :painting:
Watch those image sizes. I find that around 600 or 700 pixels wide/tall is usually sufficient for posting.

Thanks for the feedback Traveler!
You're a really brilliant artist, your sketchbook is awesome!
My main problem is that I have alot of things I like to dedicate my time to... modelling and drawing being the two things I do the most art-wise.
I find drawing is a great way to relaxe and calm down, and it is interesting so long as I get to work in my own tempo.

Structure, structure, STRUCTURE!
instead of simply copying what you see, think in terms of what makes it appear that way. Where is the bone under the skin and where is the muscle tissue? Also, when it comes to facial features, remember that the face is made up of planes, rather than a single surface that has eyes a nose and a mouth plastered on. For example the eyes are set back in the head while the lips nose and brow protrude outward.
Just keep drawing as much as you can. Everyone has to start somewhere

I agree with you.
I have recently begun to study anatomy. I didn't really understand how to apply it to my drawing before, but I've come to understand that it is about breaking things into basic shapes.
I made this just now, as a refresher for my understanding of the human skull.

Yesterday I came to thinking about what a human would look like if our heads weren't round, so I came up with this:

Today I watched 'The Social Network' and I ended up drawing Rooney Mara, who plays Mark Zuckerberg's girlfriend. I deliberately tried to use a lot of my anatomy knowledge when drawing and I think I ended up pretty good on the structural side of things. As for the likeness, I think it is somewhat lacking.

Notice I spent a lot of time going :wtf: over her cheekbone.

hmmm...well, I agree with the person who said you needed structure.
If you're really serious about art as a career, it's best if you start to learn the fundamentals of drawing. If you just do it as a hobby, then I guess it's ok.
This site is really good to learn how to draw faces (I see you like to draw portraits)

I am watching videos called 'The Structure of Man' and am learning tons about anatomy and how to simplify it into basic shapes etc.
I made these drawings of 'Claude Frollo' from Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" to understand how to exagerate anatomy. I find it interesting the way his face is a triangle, his nose is a triangle, his eyes are triangles and his mouth is a triangle.
