Request a Tutorial Thread (Polls)

Why not create some polls to find out what people are really looking for help with. Let's see if the art community can come together here with a massive library of useful tutorials.


The subjects that are rated the highest should attract help from people. Make them as intricate and as specialized as you like.

So ask what you will...


...and remember to organize a poll, otherwise it would to difficult to keep up with individual requests.

Well there's no poll yet, but here's my li'l ol' request...

I personally would like to see a tutorials just on basic painting with photoshop or painter. Just something simple to give total noobs like me to work with, cause I'm trying right now and it's just not working for me....:(

i'd be interested in breakdowns of the actual painting process alongside some handy tips and pointers.

it should be difficult to get a bunch of great and well-known artists to do something like that.
i'm thinking of justin sweet for example or puddnhead (where is he anyway? he's doing so great art and posting nothing :( ), vance kovacs should be pretty interesting, too as there isn't that much of him around the web that i found.
ryan church or dermott power come to my mind, too...

I agree with you both totally. Getting a tutorial from Justin Sweet would be AWESOME!!!!!! There is no possible way to get ahold of him I fear. Sadclown...I suffer from the same problems...I am not getting the hang of it either. There are a bunch of tutorials at www.gfxartist.com/features/tutorials . Try the tomato one...that is really good.

As for Justin Sweet -- You have Jason Manley here whose style is very similar to Justin’s and IMO he's easily as talented.

Ask one of the dozens of professionals who are here -- you're bound to find help.

Just take advantage of their time while you can...since most artists come and go.

I would like to have a Color/Light/Shading Tutorial.

What i mean is that if i have e.g. a head and shade it it contains just the skin colors. if i want to add some additional colors e.g. blue or green from other lightsources or influences it looks crappy.
How to give the pics a lightly colored look?
I hope you understand what i mean?
A tutorial about this would be great.

I would personaly love to see more on saturation values and blending process those out there usre to get nice sharp and clean (non muddy paintings sparts tuts kick ass but i would like to see more of the brushes or how the brushes layers etc are applied

I would LOVE to see a very thorough, indepth tutorial on a digital painting from thumbnail sketch to finished product.
Many tutorials have been done n this process, but they are pretty much more an overview and don't go too in-depth about the thought process and whatnot.

I've started a painting called "Bird of Prey"

I'll try to take the time to make it into a tutorial to show my own thought process.

It's a rough silhouette of the assassin "Jayden" in motion high up on the side of a castle wall.

I spent a little time creating this thumbnail last night to get down the image in my head. I have a fairly clear picture in my mind so it's just a matter of laying it out as I see it.

So my own thought process from start to finish will be how I approach something when not using reference.

Hopefully it will be of some use to you.

i would love some quick value renders a'la marker sketches. i've seen feng's, but i want more. and in depth descriptions of what the artist is trying to do and why.

there are some tutorials in the quest spod section.
