Hello all,

I am a complete noob to the world of sculpting. As of now I am in preparation mode gathering all the resources and tools I might need before I start (and its quite expensive). As I am waiting for some of my packages that I've ordered to arrive, I have a few questions before I start on my first project. A lot of your threads and tutorials have already given me a good jump start and what to expect but I still have a few inquiries if you guys could answer would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if these questions have been answered already or sound elementary.

1. what is a resin cast and what is its purpose? is it easy?
2. is the painting process done on the clay?
3. ive read somewhere that resin casting can be outsourced. do you recommend outsourcing or doing from home?
4. does anyone have more information on producing your creations for retail?

These are all I can think of at the moment but I will post more as the answers come in. Thanks in advance for your help guys!

I think I can help somewhat;
1. A resin cast is what you pull out of your mould, { silicone}, it's the duplicate of your original piece. The "resin" is just a two part liquid that hardens in the mould, and you remove it and paint that!
2.No, don't paint wet clay, but if you use something like "sculpy," that you bake to harden, you can paint that of course, but if you want to make multiples,{ from a mould,} you would paint them.
3.There are lots of great books out there on mould making! Its really simple, but there is no teacher like experience. So read up, study, and start making mistakes like the rest of us. { Don't worry, it's easy, and fun. Don't outsource, you need to know about this stuff if you want to be a sculpter. We will all help you!}
4. Retail sales? Well I have failed miserably in that department! Maybe someone else should answer that question for you !
