Eagleye logo - Illustrator

I'm not sure where to go with this logo. I think the star is kinda cool, but the circle is more concise. I'm doing this for a friend, my pro bono work for this month, so I'm not going to do too much more alterations.

My not so professional opinion:

I like the IDEA of the star - but on execution, it looks small and hidden behind the eagle - but if you made it larger, it would likely be overpowering.

Between 1 and 2... I like 1 - the hue contrast makes the eagle stand out better and gives the image a little more depth than with the straight saturation contrast of number two.

number one might work even better if you warm up the eagles feathers a little with a hint of yellow?

Personally I like number 2. The largest block of color is the eagles feathers and I think the light blue is to close a color to the gray. If you want blue I would try a darker blue just to see how it looks. If you want to do the star I would find another way of finishing of the bottom of the eagles neck. Use some of you different line weights to find a creative solution. Overall its very nice, very nice execution.

Yep - lose the star logo, it just doesn't 'read' quickly, as a logo should.

Between 1 & 2, I'm leaner towards 1 - BUT you do need to make the eagle come forward slightly from the background. Just play with the colours.

An idea...what do you think? It might need some tweaking if I go that route. The star is a bit much for a logo, many other critics have pointed that out, thanks. I'm going to show the client all the ideas.

this might be a cliche, but may i suggest adding a magnifying glass into the eye? something that makes it obvious that its an appraiser.

the last image reminds me of gangs of new york. bill the butcher has an american eagle pupil for his fake eye, could still go that way though.

I like the new idea. I would like to see something a little more subtle as an eye maybe. like you say though you dont want to make too many more changes, just clean up the lines, particularly the eye lashes. Also is the text going to be part of the logo? Could be interesting to see how that would interact.
