made this about half an hour before in the pc-pool.

I do not like the cloths and the mouth. The mouth just does not wanted to get right.

As you can see I'm still very new to oil pastels. Can some help me with it?

I think you have a good start and a nice sense of color, oil pastel isnt an easy medium, but as for the drawing aspects, i'd actually take out some of the folds in the shirt. They look kind of bunched up and sort of unnatural to the figure (moreso on the right). make the folds bunch under the armpits or anywhere where the cloth is pulled or compressed or affected by gravity. Across the chest, if there was no support it would look fine just going down. The facial features all look pretty good, if you want to touch up the mouth i'd maybe make it wrap around the face more, and add some more high lights. Nice work with a tricky medium :)

have you ever tried darker paper? it looks like you're fighting the white of the page. i'd try some colored pastel paper. just a thought to try.

Crawley: what do you mean with "fighting the white page" ?

But I would like to have such paper and chalk:

Once there was a guy on conceptart, who drawed indian like characters with face paint and villages and environments, that are settled in the arae of the ancient north america. He used pencil and white chalk and very nice brownish paper. I can not find him anymore on these boards. can someone help?

I tried white and other chalk over different mediums, but it never turned out to be tiling. It greased and dissapeared. It only went good for the wallpapered walls in my room. Is there special chalk for paper?

Alos I may should make another thread for my following questions here they go:

Is there a good technique to render realistic hair with pencils or pens?
I would like to know some techniques for acrylic paint. A friend told me that there is acryl binder, with wich you can do thin transparent layers wich are constant in intensity. Then you can paint another layer over that one. I always tried to make thinner colour with water, but it turns out very uneven and is not very controllable (have to paint fast and from light to dark like using watercolours).

Yeah hell and markers. I collected a nice set of coipic markers on alcohol basis. Now I want to know how people get this really nice weird spots and fadings with them.

I think that is all for now. Sorry for the last part to be not concluding with the topic.

hmm not sure exactly how to describe it better. just looks like working with a toned paper might have been easier for you. oil pastels hard or soft should work on colored pastel paper. you have to get it from an art supply store. it is a thick heavy paper made for pastels. acrylics can be hard because they dry so quickly. do you have any acrylic glazing medium? diluting your paint 50% with it will make it spread easier without watering it down like watercolor. anyhow good luck. hope that was clearer.
