...here at CAF. :) Crits are totally welcome, and I would actually prefer them :), I'm a hopeful for Ringling in 2010 (Computer Animation), hope to have stuff from my actual sketchbooks up soon.

The painting i believe is 3'x4' and it's finished now :o, the drawing with the tarot cards is 2'x3' and everything else in this post is 18"x24"

thanks for stopping by my sb!
i love your figures, esp the one with the tattoo. on the one below it, the head's a bit small.
it's hard to tell from some of your portraits and drawings, but be sure you're drawing from life. they want to see observational skills more than anything else.

On most of the observational ones, they were observed, including the one with the hood and the knife *a costume i have, its got elf ears too...lol* and the split one *it was a distorted wavy mirror sculpture i had to use at a summer class because someone broke the mirror i was supposed to use...so I used this split one...how entertaining.* When I went down to Ringling he also said that i could try experimenting and tweaking my observational drawings, putting some twist on them...

Thanks for stopping by, very appreciated, and yeah i definitely agree the head is too small on that sketch, my teacher pointed that out ot me as well.

from what I can see you seem to be pretty strong in most areas.

Thanks for a look-see, and sorry about not posting more...T_T being 17 with those college apps isn't fun....

ANYWAY, here is another update, I've been (and will be using) posemaniacs for a while. It's not the greatest resource but I'm keeping an eye out for classes as well...and I'm kinda snowed in T_T.

Also in the weird colored pencil drawing, disregard the notes there...my teacher forces us to write stuff...in HIS thought process. That was actually the first idea for a costume....which didn't end up going that far. Instead it ended up being closer to the original version of my character (at the bottom of the post). That costume was extremely fun to make, if really hard, and it really did have tails and these awesome boots. 80% of it was hand sewn, i didn't want it looking too polished because...well he's a thief who makes his won gear. I still need a messenger bag for the getup tho :/

Edit: Forgot the gestures...

Really like your figure studies, really nice capturing of weight and movement. Maybe try upping the contrast by making your dark areas even darker? I also really like the girl with creatures coming out of her hair, hopefully you plan on elaborating on/coloring that sketch, yes?

Thanks!, I'm digipainting the girl, its actually lighter than that and i buffed up the contrast on that specific sketch, I cant wait to tackle it!

Small update tonight, started painting this...I'm not happy with the color so far, its too monochromatic compared to what I'm used to getting out of oils...Also finished the other painting....

Edit: This was just supposed to be small...but I'm basically posting my portfolio for Ringling....

HI

So I really like the first portrait of the girl with creature in her hair and the second to last one. Cool Stuff! Are you gonna include any figures?

Nikkatzu
December 23rd, 2009, 11:08 AM
:D Mango! Thanks for stopping by!

I plan to, three of my submissions are those charcoal studies, good stuff from my sketchbook and gestures/figures, but i think I'm gonna combine the figure stuff with the other stuff. XD I'm so nervous about this...it's really tearing away at me :/.

New update :o.

Time to go wash my paint brushes and churn out another self portrait....or something...>_>.
