If I am going to make a mold of the statue, what should I use? I like Super Sculpey because once I am happy with the result I can bake it rock hard, but Chavant is cheaper and seems better for detailed pieces (I also like the way it melts when using an alcohol torch). But I am afraid that it will suffer when molding.
What do you think????Help me!!

Well, each have their own advantage and disadvantages. With Sculpey, you can always bake your piece halfway and then add on to it and also be able to pick it up and turn it around while making corrections. It will eventually dry if left out too long, like two months or so.

With Chavant (or modeling clay), it never hardens and will always stay soft. There is always a chance that it would get messed up, especially when molding. Making molds of chavant sculpt is usually a one-shot thing...if it messes up then you are stuck with having to fix the sculpture back.

I have made molds of sculpts made of modeling clay and I used polyurethane rubber as the mold. I had to spray them with a demolding agent and it made the modeling clay sticky...I couldn't really re-use the clay. Maybe it is different with silicone molds?

Thanks, Mad Cross!!
I am looking for Sculpey Firm, because it´s so hard to work on detail with regular Sculpey...But I can´t find it!I think I´ll try Chavant Medium...damn,I am afraid to ruin the sculpture in the molding process (anyway,if the mold is good, there is no problem if the original is ruined).

"it never hardens and will always stay soft"

Did you try the Chavant NSP Hard? At room temperature it's pretty hard, you can "carve" it without leave your fingerprints on it, while with using a heat source it's become soft.
It's pretty cool stuff :)

Why so worried about the mould? :P

If you would carefully and logically you shouldn't have any major issues. True - sometimes minor issues beyond your control do arise... but castings can be fixed :)

You could even fix a casting then re-mould it better if you have some spare silicone.

Also size? Bigger = More probably Chavant.
