well.... we were al like drawin and havin a good time and then out of the blue marco painted something that makes me want to change our whole direction on this thing so we may be retooling it a bit but we will show what we have done so far soon!

I had some more fantastic sci-fi stuff with crazy proportions and stuff, but then I got sick on Friday and played through Mass Effect again. Then this happened. Not sure if it carries the weight of the Death card yet, but it's still a WIP, so hopefully it'll get there.

inspired by marco i decided to try and push some more classic space like colors and design elements
the image above of marco's is the reason i want to change design direction for mine

Yeah, dark fantasy would be the obvious choice, but enough people are going that route already. Strip the magic of astrology away and replace it with the science of astronomy and is this really such a stretch?

Marco... man, you know you are looking at a great image when you feel
inspired, excited, and horribly depressed by its sheer awesomeness all at the
same time. That rendition of Death kicks ass. I think the reason why some
people might be finding it hard to read is because, while there definitely is a
lot of death/dieing in the image, the astronaut's corpse seems to lack the
personification of Death that most people associate with the "Death" tarot
card. However you have done such a nice job of presenting the feeling of
death without any of the cliche trappings of the grim reaper which imo is
awesome. I personally think if this card was taken in the context of a "deep
space" tarot deck it would be obvious which card it was. :bow:

Twitch - sucks that you have to sit this one out. I hate that we wont get to
see any new contributions from you this round. I guess thats how it goes
sometimes though. :wink:

I love the direction you guys have decided to take this chow I can't wait to

so far we have just started with style exploration and i think we want this sort of epic not too distant future deep space exploration thing
but as much as the tarot cards are tarot card they are still for the sake of this competition characters so we are trying to make characters that embody these cards not just cards. the way i see it even if a scene matches the properties of a card if the character therein doesnt we have failed. my images are all style exploration thus far. marco's will be going to final and david? wheres my chippy?

Hey thanks Adam, that just made my day. You're absolutely right about why it doesn't immediately read. Unfortunately, since we don't have the luxury of creating an entire deck in this theme to allow the subtleties of individual cards to shine, I'll probably have to bite the bullet and push the personification harder towards the obvious than I would have liked with this one.

Sorry for the lack of updates, haven't been happy enough with what I've been doing until tonight. Probably spent too much time on it for how far I'm not, but oh well. The tentacle/probe/wand things won't be glowing so much and there's going to be some tools floating around to look like he's actually working on the satellite.
