I started this as a DSG for River Guardian- I was going to have a guy jumping out of a river ... but then I had a hard time with the water, so I focused just on the water. But I cant seem to get it right so any help would be fantastic. I showed it to some friends and one said the water isn't 'sensetive enough' so I tried to make it more 'sensetive', then another guy said it was too gelatinous. I'd really like to be able to render water better, so please ... any advice.

It was painted out in Opencanvas1

I would love to help ya out bro.. but i'm a major noob at these kinda things.. mostly i just work with a pen and a pad... however i would suggest finding photos/clips of water drops and splashes.. that usually helps me out when i need to tweek a sketch

Hi dagreengo, I'd start the painting over, put your guy in jumping, then use a glazing brush (I don't know if you have that in opencanvas) and put the water up over the guys legs etc. Water is usually greenish black. With the glazing brush, the water will look transparent and the guys legs will show through it. Use the glazing brush to make green, blue and blackish outlines for the waves on they guy. Then go back to a detail or normal brush to highlight the crests of the waves with white tones. Play around with the color of the water to get what you want. Hope this helps

as far as my observation goes - water and chrome have similar visual properties, in that they reflect everything, and their reflections (forgot the technical term, i was gonna try to sound smart :() are very defined and not blurry. Also, water splashes in sheets, with tiny drops coming off, you sorta have big globs...try imagining the water as more of a sheet.

I think I'll rework it a little bit before I update.
