Hi Francisca,

Just a note - it usually does matter to the artist whether or not the work they provide will be published, and this can make a difference in the pricing!

Published work is usually considered to be commercial, in that the client is hoping to make a profit (or some kind of benefit) from selling products bearing the artwork. The artist is going to want to take this into consideration when they come up with a price. ;)

Sorry for not being clear enough
I'd prefer a surrealistic style
I'm not interested in comic book, manga, cartoon, or extremely realistic styles.

Kiriko: It's just that I don't really know which limitations will I have when trying to get the book published, as I'd prefer traditional publishing instead of vanity press or publishing the story myself (...I hope that was clear enough, english isn't my first language)

Francisca - that is probably something you will have to discuss and work out directly with the artist you hire. If you self publish, the rights to the artwork stay with you and the artist, but if the book is being published by someone else, they will need to purchase the rights the artwork again, either from you or from the artist.

(I won't really go into vanity presses, most of them are a waste of money! If you want to spend money to publish, you're better off self publishing)
