Hi all.
I've just about finished a flash-based color picker called "PaintersWheel" that, shall we say, coincidentally, closely resembles Painter's color wheel and triangle.
It works only with CS4 (which supports the flash technology its based on).

I'm looking for beta testers ASAP.
In particular I want to test a variety of configurations (Mac, XP, Vista, 7, 32, 64 bit).

If you are interested, send me a private message and your system specs.

When it's released (within a couple weeks, I think) it will be freeware (asking for small donation to make me feel loved).

Thanks for the help!

Attached it is a screenshot with it attached to Photoshop's color panel.

Cool, most of people on this forums will be thrilled to see what you did.
It's good to know that someone listen(read) what people want from this apps.

Cheers

Hi, wow, cool idea and I'm definitely interested in beta testing it! Consider me your available beta tester if you still need one! Much thanks for making that happen! I'm sure many of us will be living happily ever after just like Bob Ross did! :sungod:

This looks amazing. You will be greeted as a conquering hero to everyone that uses PhotoShop! I would definitely pay for this.

My system specs: quad core, 2gb, Vista 32-bit

I'll beta test it. I have a quad core with 8gb ram on Win 7 64 bit.

Awesome! :) But I have CS3 so it won't work :(

Maybe I'll post again when I got CS4 running on my Intel Imac. I think it's to slow to run cs4 but maybe ill try soon

Hi, wow good news! I tried before that one: http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/12/photoshop_gets_1.html but it was really slow and sometimes the color was sampling wrong.

I would love to beta test this! I am so needing it right now. I have a Macbook Pro 4 gig ram & cs4

I would be happy to beta-test this. I'm on a 64-bit windows 7 ultimate but with 4 GB RAM/QuadQ6600, could be an interesting test for lower-spec systems (comparatively). I currently run the other colour picker but find it somewhat lacking, even if it's alot better then the one PS comes with.

Hi all.
Thanks to all the willing beta testers so far!
I'm going to be putting the wheel up for download very soon.
But in the meanwhile, if you want to beta test please send me a private message with an email address I can reach you at.
It's been kind of frustrating trying to respond via private message and having to wait 3 minutes between sending messages (I guess that's to foil bots of some sort).
Thanks for the help.

Sorry Gringo. I just checked through my email and am not finding yours.
Can you send it again to me in PM?
Then I'll send 'the goods' out to you via normal email.
Sorry about that. I have gotten quite a response and am not used to PM'ing with so many people.

I wish I'd participate in beta testing, but the lack of CS4 version stops me from it. Nonetheless, I must congratulate you for coding a such useful plugin. I thought I'd ask if it's possible for you to code plugin for displaying HSB and RGB sliders at the same window. Is it?

Tonics suggestion is quite good as well, I'd love to see that sort of Color Panel implemented (the ability to see HSB, RGB, or LAB at the same time).

Regarding the PainterWheel Plugin, it works great on CS4, 64bit, Windows 7 Home Premium. Thanks VORP!

It works flawlessly (except one truly minor thing) on Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit as well.

Just remember to download every update available - even the camera RAW one.

Sir, this is so awesome! Now if photoshop had realtime blending between brushes and impasto like strokes... yeah, painter would be so history for me.

Search for PS CS5 videos.

if you mean the laggy child of brush and finger tools used for professional photo smudging by people with mental disabilities introduced in cs5 vids, than painter is not quite dead yet.

Might I suggest a Paypal option? I would like to donate but I don't like to give my credit card information out that way.

Downloaded and painting with it. That's a huge relief from those sliders and constant opening colour window :) Windows 7 and Photoshop CS4, both are 64-bit.

Can I suggest few possibilities to develop plugin further?

- resizable colour wheel, like in Painter 11. It could make choosing colours more precisely and easier
- faster refresh rate when you hold pen/left mouse button on outer colour ring (the inner part works quite quick). I like to do it instead of clicking - it's easier to pick up colour you want and see the differences between, e.g., hues or saturations in fly
- displaying HSB/RGB sliders (also, the plugin could be customizable - meaning user could set what to display) - as I've said, digital painters have different ways to operate with colours. I personally I would love to see all three methods and use whatever it fits for specific task.

Tonic, you can select what is displaying HSB or RGB sliders manualy in color tab in the Photoshop.

I missed one word, sorry - 'simultaneously'. Two types of colour sliders at the same.

Not to be that person but I thought I read somewhere that painter kind of had exclusive rights to their color wheel. Is that going to affect anything or has anyone brought this up yet?

LOVE this, I really do, thanks so much. In fact I plan to donate a bit to this noble cause. :D However I will second the following suggestion for a future update, if at all possible:

Seconded Tonic suggestion for a faster refresh rate. :)

So far I do encounter this odd bug (though I assume is the lack of colour space in the the triangle spectrum). Sometimes when I colour pick from the canvas, certain colour will make the colour wheel jump to white (but not affecting the colour that I have picked).

Maybe an approximate location of the colour on the triangle spectrum will do instead of making it jumping to white. :) So far it have serve me really well! One of the best plugin for PS CS4.

A little bug (or not?) - after clicking on colour wheel, I can't resize brush with [ and ] keys (default keys) - nothing happens. They start working after I click on canvas. I do often want to change brush size between choosing colour and applying brush strokes, so it's a little inconvenience :) Photoshop CS4 64-bit

I try to reproduce this in my PS CS4 64-bit on Win7 RC1 and the bug is there for me.

Using CS4 Alt+Right Click feature to resize brush on the fly doesn't seem to be affected.

If you have two windows open, and you use ALT to colour pick in the other window (not selected), instead of showing the colour you picked it goes to white. it only happens sometimes, so not sure why it's doing that.

But other than that it's so great!

True, it's same for me as well. Now I'm wondering whether it's possible to resize brush in fly with only one key, like in Painter? Wacom settings panel doesn't seem to allow using Alt+RMB combination. Perhaps the shortcut can be changed in Photoshop?

I'm using AutoHotKey and setup a script to allow me to use any button to reproduce the Alt+Right Click input.

I set mine to F since I rarely use the default shortcut key to change screen mode. There is a thread somewhere in the PS section that cover this topic. Anyway if you need the script I can share it. You just need to change the button to your prefer choice. :)

I use autohotkey also. I used this walk through-
http://internet-retards.com/wpmu/photoshop/painter-style-brush-resize-and-canvas-rotation-in-photoshop-cs4/
I can forget the keyboard all together with the resize mapped to the pen button when I want to do some sketches.
