DRASTIC! unreal. thats some serious stuff you're working on m8.

To be quite honest i wouldt change much. This rough way to present this, just the basic setup works quite well. You might add more of what is called "depth of field". Put the eyes in focus and slightly blur things in the background more and more. WOrk out the eys and the mouth in a blueish color and let the hairs go from detailed to a total blur. Awsome stuff m8, drastic but it sure grasps me by the throat.

EDIT:
I guess you could use some highlights as well but only minute. Put the fish in the focal plane as well and work it out in detail as well? Would rock to keep it very low in contrast and shinyness. Nobody puts MS WORD art in their serious mail now do they? :)

i'm curious what you'll make of this. Love the element of the somewhat caring fish (cares for food?) and the lifeless careless body changing from human being to object.

Some minor updates.
I took your suggestion and slightly tinted the lips towards blue ... and I did it a little to the nose as well. The fish is going to be different... not a koi goldfish, I wanted a fish that looks less pretty. I am thinking catfish...

Thanks for your suggestions =)

The person is dieing or nearly dead, drowned. Since water is quite a dreamy landscape by itselve it could be possible to combine the dreamworld that might come after her death with reality. Looking at your fish of choice. Any fish would basicly do, hell even a shark would, keep in mind that it will greatly influence the final meaning. Which is an excellent element to play with imho.

I'll stop here, don't want to take over your work. Just inspired by the idea.

Some updates.

-I changed the fish. It is still a goldfish (well... a different species of goldfish) because with the other one in a perfect profile view, and her face in a frontal view, it was flattening out the composition.
-I opened her mouth slightly. She almost looked like like she was holding her breath before. Now it it looks more like her jaw muscles relaxed when she died finally.
-Changed her eye. I am trying to get a more realistic eye that has the same sort of 3d "pop" as the nose... This will definitely change again.
-Cleaned up a bunch of areas.

I think I am going to add a kelp forest background. Not too busy... I am thinking of putting one strand in front of her or the fish to further create a sense of depth in the scene... but I am not sure where.

It looks a little washed out due to some image settings in photoshop on this computer. I forgot to up the contrast.

I like your new goldfish better but just a few thoughts...
It might be more dramatic if your corpse was "out of focus" and the fish was "in focus" (depth of field effect)...
Reasoning: make the reader associate with the fish (and it's "point of view") and disassociate with the corpse. That would creepy up the photo a bit and probably add impact...

I like the "what is this thing" from the fish's point of view on the new one, it helps bring you in...

You might want to bulge the eyes a bit and perhaps bloat a tad... I think you're well on your way to a great piece though!

oh.. a bit more dimension to the eyes, a little more white to make them more obvious... I like the darker colors on the face, sort of pre-rot.. nice!

To tell ya the truth i like the eyes better in the second version.. they look more dark and.. deserted. :)
Same goes for the skin, like the roughness in 2nd.

But the concept rocks anyhoo so..
