i have looked through andrew loomis' successful drawing book, but it doesn't give me enough detail on how to draw very tall buildings with many vanishing points.

SO my main concern would be drawing a building with windows on one side and you are looking up on it. So the windows would get smaller as it goes higher and higher on the building. where are the vanishing points that determines the size of windows going up higher on the building?

where which vanishing point determines the size of each sequence of windows going upward on a building, where the window size and space between windows are all the same?

Vay, I think you're not understanding perspective quite right. Sounds like you're working with three-point perspective in this case - there will only be three vanishing points - one to the right, one to the left and one above the building. All parallel lines/edges (within a given plane - "one the side of the building") will converge at their respective VP. Keep in mind your vanishing points will probably be way, way off the paper depending on various factors.

Try just playing around with drawing a bunch of floating blocks or blocks stacked on top of each other - in one-point then two-point perspective. You'll find it doesn't take long before you understand the principles behind perspective.

I haven't reviewed Loomis's perspective chapters in a long time - you might try finding some other, simpler references for understanding perspective.

Good luck!

If you can get a hold of the book "How to Draw Comics the MARVEL way" this perspective question is handled and explained. Even shows how to divide the windows using the other vanishing points (a little easier to understand than that the initial picture in that thread).

Although the book sounds a little silly, its amazing how informative it is.

There are also some free videos floating about on youtube and websites as well. I found the videos helpful because I could see the process.

I've got "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way", and nowhere in that book does it show you how to measure off windows in three-point perspective.
