I've been scoping this site out for a while, but this is my first artistic post. With this piece I was trying to get used to my Wacom (I mostly just work with pencil and paper) and work on some digital painting techniques. This was all done in Photoshop 7. It was pretty fun to do, but all those tiny windows were a total bitch! Anyway, thought I'd show it, any critiques?

The rendering looks abit muddy. For a large metal Spaceship the surface needs to appear a lot 'cleaner' and more artificial eg: metallic.

Plus the pose is dead. It's too static. For a model sheet this would be fine but as a illustration there is no interest.

Find a more interesting angle or buy a model, get a intersting view point, set up some lighting and draw from there.

The image is just too lifeless (even though its just a hunk of flying metal)

Arent you being a tad harsh on this guy? He isnt on your payrole is he? :)

Can't say i disagree with u but the ship looks like the real think detail wise. AInt THAT bad. Looks pretty good but nothing stellar considering the ages it mustve taken to do all the minute details.

Its not meant to be harsh. It jusy my crit.

The actual drawing is good - It is the starship Enterprise. I just feel that it would have benefited greatly with a bit more planning.

I like to push people to get better results - I personally always work better that way. I get pissed off and set out to prove them wrong!

Sorry - But it did sound more negative then it was meant too.

i think the warp engine should have some brighter highlights, they should be glowing. so add some brighter blues, bring it to an almost white.

Thanks guys. I don't mind harsh critiques too much, in the end, that's what makes you grow the most. However I don't agree with the 'more fun angles comment' simply because I wanted to do just a plain side view to just kinda get the feel for what I was doing. But I do agree with the more glow comment, it needs way more glow-action. And it does need to look more sharp, and more metel-ish. Anyways, thanks for the help guys!
