Hi there!!
17, highschool student, like to paint.

No idea where I'm going with any of this or what to do next year (I will graduate as senior this year). I want to learn how to paint and draw. My anatomy is really bad...

Here's some figure draws and other sketches, and some painting wips... more artsy-feely stuff than anything... but this class in school, we had to make a series, mine was these figures trying to hold themselves together while falling apart and stuff. I use color really immaturely in most of them, oh well

Only 17? For being that age you are doing really well. You would be surprised how quickly you could learn anatomy and progress, if you just keep doing it every day. I like the paintings, and you definitely have potential. Keep it up, just draw every day. I'd like to see some anatomy studies and more sketching from life and imagination.

Thank you both for the encouragement!
I start anatomy and physiology tomorrow and hope to sketch in that class as much as possible! hehe! If I get anything good I'll put it up
also have to make it a goal to go to all the nude model sessions that I can

in the meantime here is self portrait haha.

Oh man, I love that self portrait!

Also, I'd suggest getting the books: Dynamic Figure Drawing by Hogarth and Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing From Life for starters. They're great for learning basic construction

I really like your stiyle. The hidden or blocked out faces make it really interesting.

For 17 you've got some real talent, just draw draw draw draw, the rendering of the hands on that first painting is especially nice. Draw from these books as much as you can, as well as hogarth and bridgman, they are all on here.

Thank you so much for the encouragement everyone! ♥ especially Metal Fingers for the books link, and jeremyg0rd0n for the recommendations
.
I really want to make this a place where I update every day, or a couple times a week at least! My new classes really hit me hard, I've been working nonstop on schoolwork. Anatomy teach had us memorizing 65 terminologies on first day with test... pretty nuts!! Anyway here's a few lame sketches.
(we're not actually doing skeletal structure yet... but I couldn't wait :-)

Said I wasn't going to post today. But I made this painting. So much stress about subject tests tomorrow. I know about 10% of the stuff for Biology. This won't be cute..

HI ALL!!! So, failure at this... here's some random little things (well actually, the still life is pretty friggen huge, the figures are 18 x 24) I've been doing in the zero amount of time I have!
the life update is that i'm scrambling to apply to a bunch of colleges, i've got about 7 on my list. Massart, cooper union for art, RISD, LCAD, Otis, CCA, & Parsons. I have yet to do the parsons challenge or the risd drawings. EEK!!! the thing that irks me most about this process is that my portfolio is really not my best work, it's a bit depressing. oh well!!

wow great skulls! i think you're doing great, love the two faced portrait in your last post and your paintings but the girl in post 18 feels like her upper body is too tall when she's sitting down. Sounds like you have a lot of work but keep it up you're doing a good job! :)
