models for character aniamtion. thought i;d share.
Dont fret about the low poly look. I want it that way. I prefer shape/volume over that smooth look anyday. :)

i like it. especially the silouhetted 3d idea. i know what you mean about the smooth stuff. i went to school for some 3d and animation stuff. everyone was always like "smooth, smooth, smooth". after a while it just looks like a crappy plastic doll.

I hear ya!, seriously... jsut taking a model and hitting SMOOTH. I hate that.. sooooo much. I guess to make a good smooth model, I'd have to go back and tweak lots of stuff again. taking 2x as long to make. So many people at school do the whole... make extremely low poly, almost too low, and they just rely on smoothing to make it look pretty. This one kid had a woman with a 4 sided arm. Blocky as all hell. He made this abomination look good just by hitting the "convert poly to Sub-D" button. I say thats pretty damn cheap. Sometimes, looks are all that matters, but for us who actually try to study anatomy, and make it look right the first time, will be better off.

it looks good and i like the characters and design so far. silhuette is important and they read, but when the characters are this dark and flat, they have no volume. is this what you are going for?

Very cool setup, man..and I agree with you about making em low-poly and accurate over high poly and not..if only low poly and accurate was easy =P
Well, just for show, would you mind showing us better lit models? or wireframes?
its cool if you dont wanna, would just be interesting to see.
Keep it up =D

Hey I like this design a lOt !! Great idea, very interesting.
There are some things you might want to change.
watch the perspective, some lines on the floor dont follow the perspective, especially on the right side. You probably went for a distorted look, but it confuses the viewer a lot !
I have no idea what that big shape on our right is supposed to be.
the man seems to be a little too big. It might be his huge head or his giant shoes, maybe both.
It is interesting that you use silhouettes in your work, cause this technique is very popular in the modern artworld here in europe.

thx for the crit.
Benzo? is that you ben!? ..intern ben.. Yes, they are more volumetric without the silouette lighting. I dont really intend the volumes to stick out as much in the final. I see what you mean though. The inspiration of the lighting comes from a pic of a woman from a home living magazine from 1950.
Kaini... thanks very much for the coments. the floor. Ya know. I'm not sure why it does that. I gota fix it. :)
The odd shape on the side, yeah I cut it off, thats a lazy boy chair.
amphex.. I'll post some wireframes. soon.
thanks guys again.
