Hey ho, people. So my friend Luke advised me to start a sketchbook here on ConceptArt in order to chronicle my progress as an amateur artist, and hopefully to motivate me to draw more. I currently draw comics primarily, and have a website set up to publish them (the link is in my sig, if anyone's interested,) but I've been trying to explore different styles over the past year or so, as I don't want to get bogged down in stylised cartoonery.
I don't have a scanner, so I can't contribute any of my pencil sketches, but here are some pictures I found to give a rough idea of where I am / where I've been. So... thoughts? Advice? I'm not sure how this usually goes. I just stubbed my toe.
These are in a random chronological order - some were done a couple of years ago.
Thanks in advance!

hai, great start for your SB :) the only comment i have is that your green orc/goblin kind of looks flat, it looks more like a wooden mask than it looks like a real face, it lacks a bit of volume.
I really like your full character renderings and the last 3 paints :D

Cheers for the advice and the kind words! I think you may be right; it's missing something. Perhaps if intensified the shadows at the terminator, it would add some depth?

Sketch for today. No scanner, so I had to take a photo - totally murdered the quality.

about the "mask issue" i think it mainly lacks values, and his head doesnt feel complete, you should normally see more of the back/side of his skull at that angle. And maybe if you add a neck to it it would help as well. And the light grey things aren't really clear, i assume it's hair? (sorry if i'm wrong >.<) but it doesnt look realistic. Hope it makes sense :P
But i really like the other stuff. Cant wait to see more :)

To be honest, realism wasn't exactly my intention with that particularly piece.
I reckon you're right about the skull shape, though. It's difficult to know, when cartooning, exactly how much to exhagerrate. In trying to keep the eyes centred, I had to place the face there, but I thought showing too much of the head would distract from the foreground. Guess I should have gambled a bit more!

Okay, here's a better version of the previous drawing, and another one I did right afterward.

Here's a couple of sketches I'm doing for a mini comic in time for the UK Web Mini Comix Thing 2010 (see here for details (http://www.ukwebcomixthing.co.uk/)) I'm thinking something in a Charles Dickens parody type thingamajigger. This is the first time I've worked with an ink and nib in four years, so I'm quite excited to keep experimenting.

Another one from the victorian adventure thingy. This one is based on my friend Angela, and named 'The Artisan'. The character is, I think, some kind of forger.
