Wow-cool works.

Silentbrain. Nice western style. What does he hold in his left hand?

Wow! Some great images and concepts. I haven't really drawn old people before so I thought this would be a good chance to do some studies of 'ordinary' elderly people who could be grave diggers.

http://www.mattelder.com/images/Pictures/ArtworksConceptual/ElderlyGraveDiggerFinalMatt.jpg

F3nix: love the feel that you've generated here and the colours work well... not too sure about the elderly concept :P

xaviuzz: face is great and I love the simplicity yet powerfulness of the pose

silentbrain: great stuff dude! Has a bit of an old school WWE undertaker and the colours work well

Hermchen: great humour and always enjoy people who can get the humour angle workin!

Had time, so I started a second approach.

@Ni*: Don't tell that you didn't have a reference. Niiiiiiice light!

@buz: that's not too bad. actually the atmosphere is't working right. Maybe next time try to use less contrast in the background while bigger contrast at the front so that a better understanding of depth is possible. I think that would help much. Overpaint:

You're quite right Hermchen ! Your version is much more like what I had in mind when I started, I might have forgot it along the way. Anyway, thanx a lot :)

Your last pic is good I like the atmosphere. But the charracter in the forground might be a little too stiff and static, looks almost like a sculpture.

thanks for the compliment darkwing

Hermchen, is it so obvious i didnt use a referance? i hoped i'd got the anatomy near enough correct, its a huge weak area for me, but sometimes it just works enough...

cool stuff for this topic, The Locker, i like that style, it has alot of life to it

Hmmm... Old...digs graves... Walks around at night shaking a rusty shovel at hooligans in the commentary… scaring little kids… what fun..

I think I might need to be more lose with my style; perhaps tomorrow I will try, what do you think?

Hey Ni*. I think you fell victim to my bad english. What I meant was, that you must have used some reference to get that light right. It was meant as some kind of flattering. Anatomy is an issue for most of us I think. Ever mosting interesting.

Oh and: this thread rocks!

Ahkahna - I like the Sunday comic feel.
OLSEN - That freaking rocks! Kill 'em all!
THE LOCKER - Oh man, sketchy but really cool.
Iotrez - That's too funny.
Hermchen - It's interesting how you came up with two completely different approaches in one day. Keep at it.
SilentBrain - Damn. I think you nailed it.

Damn web host is switching servers... may be down for a while. Bastards!! All of 'em!

I'm sneaking this in just at 12am.
I would have been well on time but I had to get my jaw back together after looking at a thread started by Hawksprey in the "finally finished" section. My jaw hit the floor pretty hard when I saw that stuff.. Anyway here's my pic.

hermchen- thanks, the thing he's holding is a memoir
basically he's supposed to be one of the npc bosses in a japanese rpg video game that starts bad but ends up good...or something like that XD
Your first gravedigger...really creeps me out :D

matt elder- omg, the UNDERTAKER...I got to look at the new him one time, I can't figure out why they changed it! The old him was incredibly more intimidating and spooky, but then they changed him into a biker dude...
nice head studies, esp that chin-up one. That angle is a pain to get right, but it looks like you nailed it.

shadoman- you wouldn't believe how long it took me to figure out what I wanted to draw though x_x
damn your webhost! I must come back to see yours later :o

riq- dah ah jush sawh Hawksprey's dhweagh, mah jhaw ii fawweh ofh doo

(I woulda thought drawing an old guy would be more difficult...hell, it was for me! But wow, this thread is all awesome hahaha

buz, ni, ahkahna, beatnik, riq- love the moods you got going there!

Hey Everyone. Nice stuff.

Umar/Maximus.. Nice lighting and shading, but..Umm.. Your signature is the focal point of your picture. I'm saying this from the point of view of," wow, this pciture really has some nice lighting, shading, and control of value, but is "Umar" really an important element of the picture?". just as well, the picture is nice.

It's a really great effort with the character's personality and mood almost leaping out at you.

Fantastic work
