Pretty much says it all. New art student, looking to get a hell of a lot better (aren't we all?) :)

Hoping to use this thread as a good way for me to see some progress.

Most of these sketches are for an interactive animation was are to make in Flash. Although I am hoping to do them in PS and import them over. I haven't much experience in painting in PS but have made a start on it with the lower pic of the chap with one arm(!).

I can see a lot of obvious things that are wrong, though it's the bits that I don't see that worries me so I'm hoping for a bit more direction/advice. Currently taking Life Drawing lessons which are big eye-opener and hope to see some improvement because of it.

EDIT: First image changed for the thumbnail.

Wow, this is a great start I must say. Your sense of anatomy, your line quality, and the rendering is really good.
Keep doing studies / stuff from imagination and practice digital painting too; I think I'll keep an eye on this sb

First page items now on this post.

Jeremy: Thank you very much, definitely gives you that needed kick up the a*se when people are encouraging. This site seems so good for that. :yayca:

Forgot to time myself with the last one, which I was planning on doing, prooobably abooout half an hour. Too long but time comes with being repetative I hope. And excuse that fact her face is very manly. :/

No reference. Photoshop. Manly Face. Possible broken hip.

Not Daily Sketch

Concept idea for flash game environment done in Photoshop. Was trying to go for atmospheric night time and colours. Using the green from the plants as primary colour and blue light from distant moonlight as an ambient as well as the yellows/oranges from the fire. It still needs a lot of work and hopefully will have the time to finished it as I have to code the bleeding thing too. Not really happy with it as is, but learnt quite a bit so it's all good. :)

Sorry if you can't see much. I have duel screens, one screen is quite bright and the other you can't see jack. Bit weird seeing as I have a monitor calibrator. Guess I need to buy two of the same screen models. :/

Forgot to add this to previous post:

The one above and this one are both for same project, one a flash game, second is concept work for a website, of our choosing. One suggestion was learning through music and include images of people as stylized stereotypes, could be fun. :) This was my first attempt, and is of no particular music style.

Stereotypes I was thinking of: Rock, Pop, Jazz/Blues (The Spirit Of Jazz from Mighty Boosh pops in my head for this one), Electronic/Dance, Alternative/Indie, Rap/Hip-hop....any other suggestions welcome. It's meant to be fun and over-the-top.

The shine on the top of the hair is particularly crap!

Offered to help out a 4th year student with making a game, sounded like good practise and fun too.

The game in a few words: Druids/Synaesthesia/Flash/Cartoony

Quick character idea, we just started so will be interesting what they others come up with off the bat.

I really love your sense of rhythm and movement in your sketches. You seem to have a nice organic flow in your work. I don't have a whole lot to say that's more constructive, besides that some anatomy studies might really improve your work.

Different project: Make a piece of digital artwork based on a chosen artist you enjoy. I'm hoping that this is obviously Beardsley! And I'm not offending his honour. :D

Hit a bit of a wall with this, so thought I'd just start with using some his shapes/lines and work out some compositions/ideas. Maybe something will pop out at me. :/

Major Tom: Thanks for your comment. :)

You are right, I really do need to get working on my observational work. Shame I can't scan my LD class work but should just get out there and draw people, from the bushes if need be! Kinda shy about the possibilty of some nosey old woman coming to look at what I'm drawing, not all that confident about it.

I hadn't really thought about it but yeah, most things are quite organic. Maybe start drawing more man-made items, could be interesting...

P.S Your avatar makes me smile everytime...nice!

Never done a speed painted concept image before so thought I'd give it a go. From imagination, made up as I went. Trying out some new brushes also, think I found a nice one for clouds. :)

PS picture from one of the sketches in my SB. Took a few hours. Getting close to our hand in at uni so can't spend as much time as I'd like to doing these but I think there's improvement from the car scene pic?

Interaction finally done. I'd still like to add an animation for a few things but right now, kinda glad to see the back of it. The puzzle element is lacking I know but going from knowing pretty much no Actionscripting meant I spent most of my time messing with that.

Some rather bad life drawing. :/
