this was going to be done for the dsg about the drawing be half animal/machine, but since I always see something cool to do the day after it was I assigned I decided to take my time on this...so I am going to post my progress on the creature and see if I can get some good c+c along the way :)

This was the intial sketch with flat color

and this is the second session of progress....I decided to use hatching to give the fur effect..for two reasons...one it makes the fur really grow on the creature and the second is I am not yet good enough on the tablet or color on the computer in general to do better :(

Very interesting to see how you started the jaw roughly and added more detail on the way. Worked out pretty well.
Are you using a large tablet to draw?

yeah I am using a pretty large tablet to draw...how did you know?

what I am upset about is the lack of time of spent on the next phase....maybe I can get more done tonight..

Looks great, man! The hatching action on the fur looks cool, and I like the robot jaw too. Keep his orthodontist away from me!

heres another update....all I really worked on was figuring out a good background and defining more of the shapes under the neck aroudn the jaw, and in the face

Beautiful use of crosshatching to create form!

How does he swallow his food? His jaw has no floor.

Lucky guess i guess Jack.
I was wondering though. YOu seem quite skilled at using the pad. Does your hand ever come in contact with the pad or are you someone who holds his pen quite high ?

im getting midly annoyed by sticking with my hand to the pad after 15 minutes of work.

Looking good, the jaw works quite well. Even removing the floor works decently. Basicly tells you, "im not using this to eat" :)

Banimator - thanks for the comments....and yes I scrape my hand on the pad all the time...and thank you, but I am not very skilled with the pad yet....cross hatching I think for me is the easiest way to get to what I want with out really knowing how to use the pad properly

here are two more...they are updates...but they themselves are the same except for the back muscles which I can't figure out which one looks better....suggestions would be great..

even more cleaning up in these...and a little more detail to the structure under the neck still don't know if I want to install the rest of the lower jaw...the only real diffrence is the bump between the center back line and the front ear...I don't know if I need it or not

I think the difference is kind of irelevant, although I guess I like the bottom one better because the back has a little more slope to it, which makes it a little more dramatic looking.
What happened to the background?

personally i think the top one, as it seems more anatomically correct that his other 'shoulder' would show, and also, it makes him look sort of stronger by having an extra lil muscle.

But reillys comment is correct too- that line is a bit more dramatic. up to you of course!
