Monitor brands/sizes/etc

Hi there,

I'm buying basically all my supplies for my computers... I have a desktop pc which runs on windows 7, and am starting to do more digital artwork. I'm looking to eventually become a professional in the field and right now I have a pretty good job which is for an IT reseller so I am looking to take advantage of the employee discounts and buy what I need. My monitor has a shitty resolution and I was wondering what you pros use for monitor size, resultion, refresh rate, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try the HP LP2475W. A 24 inch IPS monitor, perfect for color accurate work (like illustration). It has a 1900x1200 max res, which is VERY good to start out with, and also has nearly perfect viewing angles. Get this one, you WON'T be dissapointed.

I used to have a 23" display hd monitor by apple. It was very good and nice til it dies after only two years. Now i have a Hp lp2275 w. It's good but not as my previous apple.

the advice to use a crt for graphic applications doesn't apply anymore. that was 5 years ago.

i'd second the HP LP2475W! if u have more money go with EIZO. NEC is great too.

You know what's funny is that was one of the ones I was looking at. I also found a really nice samsung which is very similar. I think I can get better pricing on the HP from work though. Is that what you have?

Might be obvious to others, but out of curiosity, what makes the EIZO better than the rest?

Personally I'd recommend NEC. I've got the 2090 but when I upgrade I'll prob go for the 2690, which in my view (i.e. non monitor expert with not much monitor experience!) is a great value entry level pro set-up. Eizo apparently is also v good and maybe a little cheaper.

Yes I have it. It cost me about 600 dollars a year ago... maybe you'll get a better price today. Worth every dollar. To be honest, I'd like to purchase a second one someday soon... who would've thought HP makes these good products. It's also excellent for gaming and watching movies. I wouldn't go for EIZO, overpriced IMO.

I would go for a NEC 2490WUXI if you like to splurge a bit. It's the best 24 incher out there (1000-1500 bucks though, and I think that version comes with Hardware calibration - which is kick ass - the blacks (color) are also almost TRUE black - in tests side by side with the HPLP2475w, the darkest black in the HP looked 70-80% gray compared to the NEC - so indeed it's good). Another monitor to check out is the HP LP2480zx, with Dream Color technology. But this will cost you an actual arm or leg, but it's good to dream don't you think?

Good luck on choosing your monitor! But, you can't go wrong with the HPLP2475w (specially if it's your first good LCD).
