Cool stuff everyone. I was imagining that the prison would have to be in a very dangerous place for no one to escape. The prison is high atop a ridge in the mountains with one way in and one way out. This is a landing pad located on the opposite ridge accesable only by air craft. the main transport would drop its cargo and then leave and then a smaller craft from the prison would then pick them up.
thanks for looking :)

Massive heating generators are required to maintain a constant 12 degrees Celsius at the Kryztaliss Prison.

Here's my entry... Considering the quality of the pieces in the original thread, I don't think I'm going to take it, but it was fun anyways... Maybe next time :)

Why keep 'em in cells when you can just put 'em in deep freeze?

Bob was none to pleased with pulling perimeter duty for the third time this week.

Finished. Again, this is a rather small piece done in acrylic on 9"x91/2" masonite. This is my first completed EOW and I'm actually quite happy with the result. This was also a speed paint done in 4 1/2 hours. I would have taken a little more time on it, but I didn't want to miss being able to post. :)

Well my computer completely died on me as I was working on this (ram went bad), hence it's late but I wanted to share it anyway. The first one is the interior, those little bulkheads in the ice are the cell doors. The only portion of the facility above ground is in the bottom picture. The atmosphere is too thin to breath and the ice planet itself has less than standard gravity.

Whoops. sorry I'm late...

I was really impressed with many of the entries this week.
ATAnderson: I really enjoy the dark and gritty feeling of your piece. It was brooding and grim, a great atmosphere for a prison. You had both nice textures and rendering.
Mishkin275: I really liked your composition. You got a lot done, and it looks really interesting. I think you did an especially good job with the colors.
t i m: Yeah, nothing to hate there. And lots to love. Excellent rendering.
darknight: I think your piece also had some fantastic atmosphere. It feels incredibly isolated.
However, seeing as how darknight's is the only image available for choosing, guess who gets my vote.
You guys did well this week.
Lets just get those icons posted right, and get these in on time!

ouch, some good ones weren't in the poll :/
ZweiDee: DS FTW! Sweet sketch, Diego! :)
auden: love this one, it's my favourite - great angle, atmosphere and design!
Mishkin: nice one, spot on values and interesting compostion!
ATAnderson: great atmosphere although I think you were a little careless on value arrangement and readability. Viewed small, this is very undefined. I like the concept!
guilefine: I think I would totally have cropped out the entire left half of the image. The right area looks very nice with the textures and 3D model (I assume). There is a lot of inconsistencies with rendering quality overall. I like the blurred foreground!
tim: nice design but the composition is very haphazard in the placement of elements.
sorry for not critting everyone! ><'

we seem to have an odd glitch here
November 10th, 2009, 03:36 PM
I vote for auden100 - maybe not very prison-style but great colours and painting style

Mine isn't so hot, thanks for the advice. I feel like I didn't really commit to anything. If i had used a model then it would have been easier to commit but I hardly ever use 3d underneath the painting anymore. I used to untill i realized you never learn anything by using something as a shortcut. Using 3d underneath is a huge crutch if you can't create work free hand in perspective. It is similar to just copying from a photograph which i admit to also doing. Alot of people use some thing to aid their work and it isn't a terrible and shamefull thing to do but some people treat it like it is. I don't know why this is but I do know you don't learn anything from using them. One day I was like, Why don't I use my time better and just paint it instead of spending days on a model when it is going to end up in 3d anyway? I realize I owe everybody some process work. I don't know how helpfull it will be but I will try to put some stuff up for this next round

November 10th, 2009, 08:40 PM

November 11th, 2009, 12:58 AM
Man couldn't get my done in time last week. I'll mess with it on the side though.
Nice work guys!
ZweiDee-gah I need to get my hands on one of those ds. Pretty awesome considering you did the piece on there. Nice!
Mishkin- Like the composition on this one a lot. Overall just a very nicely done piece.
November 12th, 2009, 04:35 AM
@Trashy, Thx! Wait little bit. The new DS with bigger screen coming soon, in spring 2010.
November 14th, 2009, 02:11 PM
miskin did a really realistic approach and i like that alot. at anderson had the most visual message of a fortress, a building that is very hard to reach and get out of. arts of bob was very good imo because he conceptualized the way energy would be created in a cold environment like that. on the other hand, i kind of missed the message of a prison here.
well, for some reason the first two arent in the poll so my vote goes to 3. good job to all!
