Here is my 3d version of DinFet's snailbot with Shawnye's color interpertation from the coloring book (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=11580&perpage=30&pagenumber=16) thread.
Both you guys RULE;)
This was modeled in 2 hours 45 minutes for the speed modeling thread over at cgtalk. I spent just as much time on the texture and lighting though.

thanks a lot guys
h2olt- looks like a painting huh? that rules since i was inspired by a painting. High praise from you.
Here's the wireframe. mostly tweaked primitives and spline modeling. the map is nearly all proceedural. the only imported map was for the lines on the snail shell. now that i don't have a time limit i'm going to go back and add all the detail from the original illustration. i'll update when i'm done with that.

very nice lighting and bump/displacement. i would add a little rust to the textures and maby cast some of the light from the eyes onto the hand. vary nice overall tho.

I don't know a helluva lot about the process of CG modelling, but this is a well done and endearing piece you have here.
Hooray for snails!
