View Full Version : "KONG" sculpt

This is a sculpture that I completed earlier this year based on the Peter Jackson film version!
It's about 15" high and was sculpted in water based clay, which was then kiln fired.
I'm planning on moulding and casting him up in resin and then painting up the original sculpt, but thought I'd post up some photos of the raw sculpt before I get into all that.
If anyone's interested I'll post up some progress photos of the mould making as I go along.....might be a while yet as I haven't had a lot of free time recently, but I'm hoping to find some time soon to get started!
Thanks for looking.
Terry

wow, excellent sculpt! The details of every tiny surface are amazing, not to mention the overall look. This looks like an official WETA statue. :D

Wow, I just checked out http://www.nortonceramics.co.uk/ (I presume it's your works?)
I must say the variety of pieces as well as the exceptional quality ('alligator') are impressive. Why are the prices in dollars though if you are based here in sunny UK? Is business better with the states? Curious just for my own future business ventures. :-)
Cheers for posting on here and offering inspiration.

Thanks a lot, Yes that is my web site...although it's not been updated for several years!!! I have a new online portfolio at Deviant art:
www.revenant-99.daportfolio.com
The old site has prices in dollars because my partners' brother ( who built the site) managed to set up a credit card payment facility for a very low price....but it was US based and the prices had to be set in dollars.
This was done quite a few years ago and if I was doing it now I would just use paypal for any sales. The credit card facility is no longer active and I no longer add stuff to that site as it was a very long winded procedure to go through to do it.
As far as "business" is concerned I find that any sales I make are evenly split between here in the UK and in the USA and Canada although I've found that the extra cost of shipping abroad does deter a few buyers. I've had to drop my prices for foreign sales in order to make my stuff more affordable to people generally!
Thanks again for all the kind comments and I will get round to posting the moulding eventually....

Excellent work here Terry!!! Nice job handling the fur, scars, wrinkles etc. Really like the base treatment, even though I am not usually a fan of having names on them it works here. Looking forward to the molding pics as well!

Okay I've changed my preference from the alligator on your old site to 'melty-head-vampire' at the end of gallery one on your new site.
That is just such a cool yet revolting effect :-)

:teeth: ahhhh apreciate!! I really love the attention to detail on the hair and skin! The expression is really interesting and gives kong some real personality. I know how long this must've taken- You are so talented!!

Thanks a lot for all the kind comments, and yes this did take a long time to sculpt......but that's no great hardship!!
I love sculpting and time just flies by when I really get into it! I find starting is the hardest bit...just getting the nerve up to attempt something that might not work out is difficult but once I've started a piece things get easier.
