LOOKING FOR GRAPHIC NOVEL ARTIST (Scifi/Fantasy)

Hello all,

I am looking for a graphic novel artist for a screenplay adaptation based on my science fiction/fantasy script. The script has gotten some attention and recently just placed in the Austin Film Festival quarter finals. Based on the advice from some hollywood screenwriters who have written some of the top grossing comic films I am looking to create an intelectual property in the form of a graphic novel. I am, in fact, an artist myself but work as a graphic design instructor and a full-time university student and don't have the time to work as the main artist on it. I wouldn't mind another style and as an artist I can communicate my ideas better while giving the artist their creative breathing space.

I am looking for some sequential samples as well as other types of work. It should be somewhat realistic in nature, while being fantastic.

The graphic novel, once translated should be around 60 pages.

Unfortunately, I can't pay as much as I want to. I am looking at $10-20 per page but if the artist is exceptional maybe we can arrage something else. I am also willing to negotiate a fair royalty % aside from the page rate. We can also discuss your involvement, trechnically I could ink myself and will probably do my own colors.

Not sure the meaning of your post? Can you think of a better way? I found my artist but not sure your point besides trying to dicredit me or these ,highly reputable, sites.

As far as my script, I believe it's good but I am not the most objective person being the writer, am I? so, aside from placing in competitions, you tell me the how I would approach finding an artist to work with? or do you have any idea what you are talking about at all?

Fighting the urge to name drop, since you bring up me talkign to hollywood screenwriters, I can assure you they aren't obscure names and you would be familiar with their work.

I'm not rich, I don't have an agent, and to get a script made in Hollywood these days it's much easier when you have an established intellectual property. Which is all I am doing.

First off, I certainly know how difficult it is to get your project going. It is like climbing a vertically sheer mountain dripping with liquid soap, with only your trimmed fingernails as a means of getting any kind of grip.

I'd suggest you stop wasting time on Yellow Dog's assertion that conceptart.org is an obscure forum site. It's not worth your time arguing with the ignorant.

However, this particular forum (for jobs over $500) seems not to be the proper place to post this "job". I use quotations because this is a speculative thing, not an actual job that, once finished, will actually go anywhere. Also, with the $10-$20 page rate being - let's be frank here - wildly, ridiculously unprofessional, this amounts to a "job" that cannot in any way sustain anyone's ability to pay any rent or bills in a timely fashion.

This "job" is a long-term speculative venture that has very little guarantee of anything.

But let's be clear about one thing: THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT! This is how great things can be accomplished! You do what little you can, bit by bit, until you have something that's presentable to someone - Entertainment Lawyer, Agent, whomever - who can take it to the next level.

HOWEVER, YOU NEED TO RECOGNIZE THIS FOR WHAT IT IS, AND NOT TRY TO CHARACTERIZE IT AS BEING ANYTHING MORE. After re-reading your first post, I see that you laid it all out succinctly. My only objection isn't the amount you're paying (if someone agrees to it, then they make the deal that they make), but rather this not being the appropriate forum.

Yellow Dog, things are 'fishy' when someone doesn't explain things fully. vermithrax did explain things fully. He just might find a kindred spirit who's willing to take a huge leap of faith to get a project up off the ground. Hopefully vermithrax and his compatriots make iron-clad contracts explaining who owns what, and what will happen when the graphic novel does get published, and then when things end up being a movie or video game, or whatever. If he doesn't do this, then he's in for a huge bunch of misery down the road.

There is never one single path toward success. You never know, nor can you predict how things will ever play out. You simply must make the choice to risk things or not.

And vermithrax is taking that risk. One day, you might also. So when you do, Yellow Dog, be prepared for someone to think that you're being 'fishy' when you're sincerely trying to make your own way as others (such as yourself) are trying to ignorantly characterize you as being deceptive or dishonest.

Try thinking things through a bit more before you post next time. :)

Please don't knock the employer yellow dog, his post was very up front sure it may not be alot to some artists. However vermithrax did say it was welling to work with the artist as far as price and porfits. So Verms payment may go from $10-20 a page to $50-75 a page you never know. That depends if Verm finds that right artist he can hook up with.

Plus vermithrax you can always go to the services offered forum where artists of all types are always looking for work. You may find that artists your looking for there. It never hurts to look around plus if your welling to work with an artist on your project than nine times out of ten they will be welling to work with you. So you both can have a successful project that you and the artist can be proud of. =)
