I'm painting a face, with reference. The reference's eyes are pointing in a different direction to the one I want in the painting.
However, I can't get the painting's eyes to be focused on the viewer. They look all...googly.
I know I'm putting the pupils in the wrong place, I just don't know where they should be.

Use yourself as reference; look in the mirror at the same angle and sketch your eyes :) easy fix

This is true but I still wouldn't know what makes them look focused. Even when I copy the reference exactly, they look slightly spacy.
Not sure if this is any better, they still look spacey.

You just need to sharpen them up and you know specular reflection...

Don't you get the feeling they're not really..looking at you? Maybe the pupils are too small..hm.

Deadlyfreeze is correct, ALSO I checked in the mirror and you need to move her iris' more to the left. Here is a quick paint over.

Made some changes, Hopefully it's better now? Still have to add the brighter lights.
Thanks everyone for the help!

Her right eye should be looking more to the right. Also since your lightsource is coming from center/above you should move the eye highlight higher.

yeah i think the pupils still need to move a bit more left (left from our poitn of view looking at her)

Will you show the reference?
Amber Alexander did already a fantastic overpaint, I just throw in another idea:
Check the size of your irises, they look tiny, making her look a bit unnatural. The super small pupil also looks uncomfortable.
She's also missing those eyelid folds, not everyone has them but you could give her a calmer expression if you would add them.
And last one, watch out for the color of the pupil, it should be really dark, otherwise it looks like the person is blind (this is no problem in the newest overpaint).

Because of the bulge of the cornea, the shape of the eye (especially the upper eyelid) will change slightly as the eye moves. You have to take this into account if you change the direction the eyes are looking in a piece of reference, otherwise things will look odd.
