I did the sketch about a week back coz I felt really down. Actually I still am down....but that's not supposed to stop anyone from continuing to draw and develop. :D

Sketched on paper....all colors on Painter 8.

Some folks feel the carbine stands out too much...I agree, so I gotta go thru the process of defining the soldier.

Comments are welcome.

the sketch is brilliant, though the colors need more development. the gun is really nice in the colored versions.

pose and detail are great - but it feels too clean 4 me, and in my opinion the shadows should be much darker.

But this will be kickin ass when finished!!! :D

this is really good work, i love the 'soldier not fighting theme' the only thing i'd say about this, a little late i know, is that if he has stopped fighting or given up, wouldnt he put his gun down? just a thought. it also looks a little like he's sleeping. i'd have liked to see a 'middle distance stare' out of the hole in the wall but facial expressions are a nightmare to get right.

sorry for the extended criticism, i do like the painting, darken the shadows... :-)

cheers

Thanks for the comments guys....Yeah I know the shadows aren't right. The carbine's perspective is off too....eehh..its not really noticeable but it pisses me off anyway. Not gonna change it till later.

With any luck I'll be finishing up by tomorrow night and hopefully in time for my school application on Wednesday.

Too caught up in Knights of the Old Republic today, no progress...guilty as charged.

Thanks once again.

i love it! seems to me like he has a bit of fight left in him and he's about to go out and dance with some bullets.
suggestion-give him a gunshot wound or make him look beat up.

I'm trying to figure painter 8 out. I must say you've got excellent controll of shadows highlights and gradients. May i ask how you set this up? dont need a noob guide, just a short summary what tools, and why.

tnx in advance. Put that pic in my examples folder, amazing stuff.

Still not final....I'm putting in the volumetric light for testing the light and shade parts.

Agree...feet are too small. Gonna abandon that though.

Thanks for the comments.

No special tools for me...they're all done with Airbrush basically. The opacity was almost always at 2%, 5% or 18% (either one) and that's it. Went thru a few rounds of tonal and shading tests with some of my colleagues before I went into the color test. Then one more round of discussions before I started on the details.

I work on 300dpi so I can get the little things in....that's about it. I don't think its anything you haven't figured out yet.
