Here's a little taste of my inner mind, my sketchbook. Lots of learning, lots of torn out pages and half smoked cigarettes, coffee stains and stale beer. No better way to show me than my sketchbook.
As I have no digi cam or scanner most of my stuff will be digital, but I can occasionally scan stuff from school, and I will always do traditional sketches. I'm currently in a figure drawing class, as that is one of my favorite subjects, and I plan to attend an art school some time in the future.
As for right now, Basically, i'm trying to find my style. Hopefully I'll stumble upon something soon enough, and I'm going to keep practicing until I find it.
Started off the new year with some life drawing and studies.
http://home.comcast.net/~jeffmajor/sketchbook/colife.jpg
Study of some people while at school. Mechanical pencil.
Some studies of Birdgemans Anatomy book:

http://home.comcast.net/~jeffmajor/sketchbook/hands2.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~jeffmajor/sketchbook/figs.jpg
Studies of hatchwork and line weight, as well as physical anatomy.
Some fun:

Some of my recent digital stuff:

So there it is, I've begun! Sorry for the huge dump, but I guess I needed to get these off my chest. And I'm always open to crits and comments, no matter how harsh.
Hit me.

*SMACK*! There, you've been "hit." Now, to have fun...
Valcon, nice job on the studies. I could tell they were from Bridgman's books immediately (currently studying them myself). Nice application as well with the gunman four pages later. Draw more people from life and try the same application. Also, Bridgman has a nice book on drapery. So does Burne Hogarth, but not everybody likes his style (I like it though). You should check them out. Good luck and draw more.
Sincerely,
Chris
P.S. Don't worry about the big image dumps, I do that as well. Wish I could do it properly, but I don't. Oh well.

Yay got to scan some stuff at my brothers house, sorry if the quality / size are weird, i'm working with software i've never used before ...
So here's some stuff I drew from photo references:

Bonus Points if you can name the person with the caption, "This Machine Kills Fascists."
Some fun sketches:

Some 1 minute figure gestures:

Anyway, I think I made a lot of progress today, as I customized one of my charcoal pencils (6B) to do my dirty work the way I like it, and I think it really helped. Thanks Lung_Bug for giving me the inspiration to modify my tools!

I especially like the face you posted on the 25th. The very first image, right above "This Machine Kills Fascists."
Very killer work.

Yay, update!
I like this stuff, man. I like it a lot. The woman's body is nice and loosely sketched.
Very nice.
Edit: Quick question, how much time do you spend on art a day, give or take?
Valcon Jet
February 1st, 2004, 12:22 AM
i spend about 2 or 3 hours a day on art on my own time, plus i spend 3 hours every other day in my figure drawing class. I'd love to spend more time on it, but with school work and that weird sleep thing i sometimes accidentally do, it's hard :)

Valcon,
Nice job. I love the style of the mexican cowboy drawing. Beautiful variation in line quality. The colored pic of the girl is nice also. Your balance studies are a bit off though. The largest is balanced, but the line should be from the ball of his right foot going straight up (which should come very close to the small of the back and the top of the neck). The figure on the right side of that page is actually imbalanced. The line should be a little bit more towards the center of the body. Also, the shoulders should be switched as far as which is higher. The body uses balances and counter balances to move about and as such your hips will almost always slant in the opposite direction of your shoulders. Since that drawing's hips are slanted to the left, its shoulders should slant to the right.
Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Chris

Thanks jarvis, I appreciate the input. It's decently difficult to find good information on balancing in art ... anyway
i'm not dead, despite popular demand. I've just been super busy with midterms and stuff, plus I haven't got a chance to scan my sketchbook (which I will do later today).
Anyway, sans the explanation of my absense, here's some crap:

theres a nice body of work here, and theres definatly a progression as you move down the page, i think that the chick "rue morgue" is your best so far. you do the studies from the book well, but really try to take that knowledge into doing your life studies, take what you copy from the books, simplify it to where you can do it fast, then implement that into your life drawing, which in turn will inform your creative drawing..
and keep doing what you're doing, exploring all kinda media, thats a mistake i made early on and i'm paying for it now.
i'm looking foreward to more stuff...

Yeah, okay, so picture this. I'm in an art class, a figure drawing class (take notes, there will be a quiz later). So in this figure drawing class, naturally is a figure drawing teacher. It just so happens this teacher is a big femenist. Cool. No probs. Equality ra ra.
The problem comes in when she spends 1 hour of class time that I paid for to teach us about femenist art history. Has nothing to do with the class. Normally, I wouldn't care. But I REALLY want to become a better artist, so this is infringing upon my plans. So I told her, in a creative critisism kind of way, "It might be helpful to me if we would spend more time drawing and less time looking at slides." Nothing bad. Pissed her right the fuck off. Wouldn't talk to me all day, the one thing she said was, half an hour into our drawing session (1 hour and 1/2 into the class, by the way), she told me to scrap my drawing and start over, because it was "too small". Just out of curiosity, I walked around the room and found that all of them were the same size as mine or smaller. God damn feminazi!
LADIES! Here it is in plain english: EQUALITY IS GOOD, REVENGE IS BAD! I never did anything massogonistic or oppresive to women personally, so the simple act of them ostracising me based on the flesh between my legs is in complete opposition to everything they are fighting for.
So here's my response to her:

that's hilarious. Art teachers can either be really cool and informative, lazy and stagnant, artsy fartsy and spaced out... or nazi's. The list goes on. People do strange things when they are put in a position of power, which happes everywhere. Even when your serving huge bags of fatty popcorn to walking flesh eating cows that DEMAND extra butter so they can speed up thier painfull smothered deaths.
yes, people are asses in the artworld. The best way to face crappy teachers is do better work than them.
I'll get of my soap-box now. You're story twinged a nerve (if twinge is a word)
Your stuff is looking good val. Everyone gets frustrated, i'm seeing that you need more confidence in your line (slap me if this sounds too artsy.) Like in the drawing of the fat dude in straps, which is a very nice drawing. The single descriptive line make the drawing solid and look narled. The effect on the belly could be applied to the whole thing, but i like bold lines too. Keep it up dude, win the good fight.

Bonjour Bandits! I've been absent from the computer for a while, so I've been doing a lot of traditional media stuff ... I've learned alot in my little hiatus though, I think ... anyway, I'll get some of my pencil and penwork scanned soon and will take pics of figure drawing stuff with a digi cam asap.
Here's a quick sketch I did today in Open Canvas:
