form_n_focus: I'm sorry i guess i maybe went over everybody's head with this one. Milli Vanilli is a silly pop duo from the mid 1980's. They looked like a couple of Boy George rasta twins. Anyway, they had a couple of hits (girl you know it's true was one). Some time later people discovered that there was somebody else singing on their songs and not them. They wanted to prove everybody else wrong so they made a new album and this time with their own singing and the album went staright rock bottom! Somebody please fill me in if i'm wrong. It was after all quite a while ago;)

The story looks good fun so far. But the problem is...it's get whakeyer every contribution, I know, it's funny to do so..but the story can get quite lame after a while(what's next? aliens?..oh that's so cliche..). So I would ask for some more story to the storyboard...and less frantic happenings...maybe a bit more plot and such..but the problem is..that everyone is posting their own part..and that doesnt give the oppurtunity to discuss the story. Look at micke's td-story board..it has 1 line in it..and you see it doesnt get nearly as wacky as we have here. So.....

All I have done is to point out a general direction and reinforce the main plot. Which is Lil' Viks quest for beer.
I wanted a change of scenery so I put him outside,
That If anything gives a lot more options in terms of scenery, and things that might happen.

Fozzybar is right, everything that has been written in can be written out of the plot. (Hopefully more smoothly than suggested)

As for where Lil' Vik is going to be in the next frame or what is going to happen, I really don´t know.

Will he go get the cart or does he have another idea for transportation?
Has he alredy gotten the cart and is well on his way?

Will he get to the dwarfs?

Will he actually find beer there?

Where are the dwarfs? Are they nearby or far away?
If you like the story to continue in a dungeonlike enviornment they might live underground. Or not.

Will Lil' Vik ever run in to Olaf and His thirsty berserkers? Or something else?
What does Olaf and His thirsty berserkers look like? How many are they? What are their occupations?
Are they even human?

What will Lil' Vik do with the gunpowder keg, If anything?

What will happen? You will get to decide when its your turn.
The possibillities are many more than just dwarves and Olaf. I have just given you a few more things to play with if you want to. Glad you like it btw.

You wanted recommendations on how to make this thread better.

Well im going to reiterate what i said to you when we were first having discussions around starting this thread up.

It is vitally important to remember that this is a storyboard - and since the emphasis is not on how visually stunning each piece is, there are some important things to remember:

1. Technicals and Composition:

Some of the contributors have been doing this very well (for instance in the lightsaber battle) but not all. Being a storyboard, we have to remember that they are being designed as shots for a movie or some such and should therefore include dramatic lighting, foreshortening, camera angles etc.

2. (MOST IMPORTANT) Humour:

I knew from the very start that this would be a problem. I remember saying to you 'lets start another thread that can be a mock-production storyboard, thats is to say we pretend this will really be a movie, and the narrative is well thought out etc.

So far, there has been no building of tension and WAY too much humour. If every contributor tries to make their post as funny as the last, it quickly becomes repetative and uninteresting.

Even in most comedy movies there are breaks from the humour, or the humour changes.

I think what the story needs is some actual dialogue, tension, suspense, twists, cliffhangers, villains, really hitting on that emotional impact.

Im thinking of starting a new storyboard thread with possibly less members, contributing more often and maybe even collaborating on the basic narrative. Something with an arch-villain who really sends chills up your spine, dramatic fight scenes, big battles you know whatever you would expect from a big blockbuster.

I think for people to maintain interest they need that sort of complexity in a story, otherwise the single-layered nature of the story soon wanes in interest.

Do you think me starting this second thread would be a good idea? The emphasis would not be so much on speed as creating a coherent, dynamic, well structured story (and more collaboration between the contributors). Let me know (pm if you want or whatever).

PS, i am in no way disrespecting the work that has already gone into this, I think there is some VERY cool stuff and id like to see what some of you can do with a bit more room to move away from the humour,.

as for me on this, as with most things i tend to for the most part disagree. i think this thread is fun, if for nothing else just the pure fact that no one is taking themselves seriously. i mean, hell, i killed the main character, Dan started a light sabre fight, Ancient Kitten had the two characters engaged in mortal combat order a pizza, and before them let's just think about what has happened : viagra, killer robots on viagra, milli-vanilli for chrissakes. etcetera.

it was evident from the very first panel that this wasnt gonna be a dramatic arch nemesis quest against evil kinda deal, and what's wrong with that ?

if you want to start another thread, then thats great i think, ill certainly be reading it like everyone else but dont think ill contribute.

there's something to be said for not taking oneself seriously.

We wanted to start an example-storyboard done by pro's only. So the members could see how a storyboard is done considering all aspects. After that we would have started another storyboard open for everyone...

I pm'ed with some storyboard-pro's like Dan, ShawnYe, Sammy and MGH, but 3 of them are too busy currently and can't help out, though they were very interested in this thing.

So the whole thing got stuck somehow...i think we shouldn't start another one with the same preferences like the old one.

Dan gave me some interesting tips about setting some standards for the entries, so i'll try to catch another mod to make things clear. Unfortunately i couldn't catch form or skank on irc, since this wouldn't make much sense discussing per pm's or mail...

Now i'll try to make some sudden moves, so form can step out of his dark corner in irc and speak to me...also Skank, i mean, giving me your left nut isn't enough to make the storyboard start...:p

okay, umm, how bout pming some other pros. if you like go ahead make another story board but then ill make a third one that has the example etc. The way i think this should function is to have a premade script that everyone folows, as in a mock movie production storyboard instead of a webcomic. so we work outa story before hand in a thread then we people sign up and are assigned diffrent parts of the story board. but we do some environment and character paintings and drawings first to establish a mood and overall esthetic look. How bout it? Just some thoughts

oh and there is some1 i know that i can ask bout storybourds, might or might not be a help, ill find out asap :P

I've just discovered this thread, and I liked the beginning very much, but then, after a while, what i feared happened, the storyline went loose :)
Little suggestion; maybe you guys make before starting a little simple storyline, to ad a bit of structure to this collection of great creative works combined?
