Well...
I have never painted on any other medium than the computer.
But i want to do some oils in the near future. I do not have the money to take painting lessons or anything like that, but some friend of mine offered to give me some videos of a person named Bob Ross.
He told me that those videos might help me.
Now to my question...
Are those videos a good start into oils? Or can I save my time and the money for purchasing those videos?
thanks el_kyrre

Heh, reminds me of the family guy episode I watched yesterday.
On TV
Bob Ross: Alright. We're going to use a fan brush here, and, uh, I want you to take some hunter green and we're gonna put a happy little bush right down over here, in the corner there. And that'll be just our little secret....... And if you tell anyone, that that bush is there. I will come to your house and I will cut you!

Whats wrong with you?

Ahhhhh... but i guess you two are really into painting, donīt need all the help you can get or something.
Me stupid... me thought that someone in here was able to help me out on this one.
Now... to all those people browsing this forum who are not just here to make fun of other people.
Iīd be glad to get some constructive comment on that topic!
thanks

It's been a long time since I last saw a Bob Ross show, so I can't comment on how useful they would be. But if your friend will give them to you for free, take 'em.
Something else I'd suggest is going to a library and checking out several different books on oil painting.

i liked bob ross, it was fun and smooth. i'm not sure how helpful the videos are in your progression to oil painting. me thinks it might actually get you into some bad habits. but they are fun to watch...

Sorry to insult. Get the tapes, you'll get the joke. They are usefull to the extent that any information is usefull, especially when you're first starting. Most of his technique consists of various tricks and shortcuts that allow you to produce relatively competent results without understanding the underlying principles. In the end, though, anything that gets people off their asses and actually painting is a good thing.

that Bob Ross spoof on 'Family Guy' was funny, and I gotta admit his afro is pretty silly...but that man is the best damned scenic oil painter I have ever seen. And his voice is the male equivalent of music's Enya--puts me at ease like nothing else, let me tell ya.:)

Thanks a lot on that input!
I talked to my friend, and he offered them for free.
Now it sounds kind o cool, and iīll see what i can get out of those videos. Iīll go to the library, too.
Just gotta start somewhere.

No harm done man. I guess I was just fed up, cause I had a really bad day yesterday, and I think I wrote the reply at two in the morning, after a long day at work.
Hope you donīt mind.

I would think that Bob Ross could definitely help you out. I've always liked watching him create some awesome paintings before i went to school.
