Wow...if this is flakey for you...I wanna see full speed!! ;)
Pshh... I want warp speed. Cave the universe in on itself. Make us go back in time, dammit. (Just got to one up my buddy there :P)
Oh... and these leg studies (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1340328&stc=1&d=1318294037)? Srsly? Very very good. Very nice and "volumey." (I'm downloadin' em for reference. Thx)

the leg studies are nice man. the values in your latest composition are also working nicely, but i think their poses could be more natural. anyway, keep up the good work, and don't forget big brushes!

The leg studies are looking good. I like the way your lines are shaping up, you have good control over them.
The cinematic piece looks too wide to be cinematic, though. Is this 2.39:1?

Wasabi89 - Waha! Okay qwl, yip I plan to take it further.. would like to try some crazy things on it, really mess it up.. I'm pretty good at that =) Cheers cheers! =)
Jephyr X - Lull yip it's a crazy world.. stuff is flying through space at us around 80,000 km per hour.. holy crap! =) Will do =) Yip.. the abstract is done, I got to write the full thing in a few weeks time which should be no problem =) Cheers for bro-care =) Meeow! =)
Prsnsweeney - Hey bro, thank you for the compliment on that, Actually I can't credit for that, it's a study off a 3d model, yip, using it to study form and light falloff =) Cheers for the tips, I'll be making some adjustments for that piece soon =) Cheers cheers! =)
P Sage - Lull!!? Thank you for the nice compliment.. I'm flattered.. lull.. don't what to say.. haha.. Cheers bro =)
Eightball - Heey bro! =) Ah thank you for the feedback, mmm, okay it looks like poses and approach need some work then =) Cheers cheers! =)
Vritra - Hey bro! =) Thank you for the compliment =) Mmm.. I wouldn't really say I'm in control.. haha =) The cinematic piece could be a bit wide, tbh I haven't measured it, I just put in like a widescreen dimension when I started off the canvas.. I didn't really think about that when I started off.. sorry about that.. mmm will have a look at more specific dimensions in future =) Thank you for the tip =) Cheers cheers! =)

Sexy studies mate.
Maybe on those digital portraits, you tend
to do the eyes too sharp and with much contrast
compared to the other parts of the face, which are
done in a much softer manner.
Either way you are working like a machine,
so success is just beyond that next cliff.

Your 3D work is looking good to an untrained eye like mine. Keep them coming.
Also, I like the page with the hand studies. They show some really good control over lines, my friend. But as far as your human figures are concerned, I'd say you need to work a little on the proportions and rhythm. Right now they're quite static, also, some places look thick. Not thick as in fat, or voluptuous, but just unnaturally... thick.
Sorry if that sounded strange. It's the vicissitude of receiving a crit from a complete untrained twit like me. Keep doing what you're doing. It's looking great.

Found this cheap paper from Asda to draw on.. it's nice! =)
So.. mmm update on Uni.. basically I feel majorly depressed by the course.. I don't think it was anything that I'd hoped, and about the most positive thing I can say is that I made some friends, but I honestly can't wait to finish now, we're on the last assignment which will be finishing in about May next year. =)
However! I'm going to make the most of it, so atm I'm teaming up with a friend to do my Final Uni Project on a fantasy/undead theme, something quite inspired by Diablo 3 (http://imageshack.us/g/443/625k22d.jpg/), as I'm really impressed by the mood and themes they've manage to achieve, so that's my objective for my final, rather than to emphasise cliches!
The environment will most likely be made in Unreal UDK =)
So Without further adue, I'm going to forge ahead with fleshing stuff out! =)
Cheers Guys! =)

hi Kung
i like the post n:1299
it seems shape working give results no ?
did u tried the shape drawing method ? It's a painting method. Instead of beginning with lines and measuring proportions, you eyeball the shapes and shading and you correct the shapes according to the shape next to it. Your constantly correct until you image is done :) and of course it's more fun than lines/measuring method
the portrait in 1294 is nicely shaded (still proportions fixes)

Hey dude, thanks for commenting on my SB, I want to return the favor of course :)
You're working really hard and it shows, I think what's lacking right now is that you're not pushing enough to give your works a more finished look. I'm thinking it's not an issue of skill but motivation. I'll go out on a limb and suggest that you get involved with some of the community activities if you have time like the creature/character of the week challenges. Those would get you more motivation, specific briefs, and hopefully more critiques on how to improve exactly.
I looked through earlier portions of your book here and some of your digitals are spot on when you're using a reference. Just keep at it, don't give up!

Hip-down looks good but the rest looks awkward.
you need to work on the shoulders and chest area a lot more. You seem to make heads too small too.
Make more figure drawing, draw poses and spend at least 2-4 minutes on each pose and pull out the anatomy.
Keep pushing, you're keeping the momentum going, that's good!

You need to remind yourself about anatomy when drawing, it seems like you just draw them without a care. Sometimes they look decent, sometimes they look like lumps. The structure is all over the place some times.
Instead of thinking "i'm drawing an arm", think "this is where the bone go and the deltoid will connect here, this is where the bicep would be and it attaches here, this humps here is because the ribcage pinches the obliques and on the other side it will stretch".. etc, etc. In time these things come automatically but it won't do so now because you don't have that experience yet.
Draw your anatomy
Then draw your figuredrawings
Then draw your stuff from mind and APPLY what you learned.
It's very easy to tell that you apply what you've seen but not really what you're learning. Because you add the bumps and stuff on the bodies but it seems to me as if you don't really know why it looks like that. You've had the same sort of look throughout your sketchbook.
Focus harder, pay attention to the structure. Draw your anatomy and apply it to the figuredrawing and your imagination work.

My morale is a bit low, cause I haven't seen any big juggernaut
breasts today, so I guess I will just have to put on some movies.
But your studies are getting nicer, start to do one line with one
shot, drawing from your shoulder or from your elbow, not from your
wrist. I started to hold the pencil a little differently than before,
and the results are very good. At first it's kinda strange, but you
should try it. Try to hold the pencil in a different way, and maybe
your lines will get more fluid. We will talk more, later if you will
come down to the pub.

Hey there Kungfoowiz, long time. I should've dropped by sooner. Your faces have gotten really good, but your figure work could still use a bit of work.
However, what I'd like to point out right now is the homogeneity that is coming through in your work right now. The faces all tend to have the same structures and proportions. The human figures also look very similar. It seems all the girls have similar body types and gestures. I really think you should step out of your comfort zone and try and study diverse faces and figures.
You know it's a pleasure visiting your sketchbook. Keep up the good work.

Hey,
It's been a while and you keep pumping out art at an incredible rate. Your page count is truly impressive.
I like what's happening with your figures, especially those in post #1363, but I agree with Virtra. Try stopping into a library and looking at the book of portrait photography. A lot of artists fill books with drawing of features alone.
Keep it up!
ConnyNordlund
December 10th, 2011, 07:35 AM
Your figures are getting a lot better. There still some odd wonkyness here and there, I keep repeating myself but it still looks that there's no real structure on certain parts of the body.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1369436&stc=1&d=1322011187
That one especially. I'm sure you see it too because it's all over the place. To me it seems like you've been observing the bumps and stuff in the body and sort of skipped the structure of why the bumps appear. I'm sure you've studied why, but I don't think you keep that in mind when you draw it from imagination, not the same way as you would if you did it from a photo. Or well, I expect that you do that with studies. You also sometimes break bones in your figures bodies to make it more dynamic, you don't have to do that to make it look dynamic just remember the line of action. Flowy lines, it's all about the flowy linessss.
You basically need to be more tactical when you draw. Don't just draw a bump here and a lump there and a point there and a leg stretching there. You need to properly measure things and remind yourself of what's going on and keep track on the overall pose, so it works. The more recent poses you did makes more sense, I'm talking about these:
(ref?)
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1378773&stc=1&d=1323391869
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1375640&stc=1&d=1322955460
(imagination?)
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1375639&stc=1&d=1322955442
They look better because you didn't just put a leg there, a foot there, a hand reaching over there and the other foot turning over there, turned in a way that it'd look broken but it has to be there to make the pose look like you want.. It's structured and planned out and you kept your focus on the anatomy as well.
Whenever you start drawing mindlessly, stop yourself and take a break and then get back into it. You'll just overwork yourself and end up with wonky drawings, you don't want either of that.
Keep up the flow though, you're doing a lot of work and that's great. Keep pushing yourself and stay out of comfortzones.
ConnyNordlund
December 10th, 2011, 07:40 AM
ps. when doing poses from mind, try posing like the character, if you can't even closely do it then it's completely wrong and you need to re think it.
I mean, try standing like the girl in the middle in this post:
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1369436&stc=1&d=1322011187
And then try and stand like the other two and tell me if it feels natural to you :P
Not trying to stomp you in the face, I'm just trying to make you see the problem.

Hey Kunfoowiz, I really think you need to look at the negative space of figures right now. The work, especially the figure work, is looking a little wonky right now. Don't look at the details, just work on the figure as a whole. Treat it as a mass, and don't just see the figure, watch out for the negative space surrounding it as well.
Keep drawing, mate, and keep updating. I'll try and crit more substantially next time.

Hi, thanks for posting in my sb!
The new figures look a lot better. They don't look like they've got lumps of flesh stuck on now. They've got some anatomy. When you paint figures, do you make your colors as you go? Or do you lay out swatches before hand?
Something that one of my professors suggested (that helped me a lot) was to take some figure painting you admire and use the eyedropper tool to pull out a range of tones. It lets you see how much contrast and color goes into painting skin. You can either just look at them and then try to mix your own, or use them directly in your own study.

Hi 'Foo...good ta see ya back!
Nice schtuffz!! ^^^^^
You're really improving my friend...that bath-tub babe is one of your best figures yet! Seriously!
Good ta see the sketches too...and you know I'm gonna love da boid since I do so many boids myseff!! Seems like an appropriate winter palette...set off nicely by the complimentary reds of da boid.
:)
So hope you can take some time to take a break over the holidays...sounds like 2012 kicked yer butt.
Have a Merry Christmas and happy holidays!!

I love the bathtub girl. Always remember water reflects the colors around it. I try to keep this in mind when I paint water. Which isn't often since painting water is a pain in the butt. Your hardwork and progession in your SB is evident. I really enjoyed looking through it. Keep up the hard work!

December 24th, 2011, 11:18 PM
Can explain now! - You use to much line. Stop relying on it you bad boy :P - Your values are lacking and thus make them look flat and "transparent" like they don't really exist. I would continue grey scale life painting in order to obtain a better sense of how to make an object feel like you can lift it with your hand. I would also recommend not using photos for objects and convert colour to grey scale as well. Don't turn the photo to grey and so on. Just do it without that help.
I seem a tad harsh. But you have made good stride and progress and I hope to see more :3
LtPlissken
December 25th, 2011, 09:14 AM
Cowabunga dude!
It is very nice of you that you are helping Santa,
cause Santa is our big friend. Let's start with the
female in the bathtub. I can feel how she feels,
in there in a frozen water. She shaved her armpits
out of pleasure and between her legs it is very wet
and cold. She cut down her meat intake in the last
two weeks, I can see it in her eyes. Fantastic job.
The female in the ocean is great, I know that a
big shark will mangle her pretty soon and her body
parts will float on the oceans surface. Brilliant.
Your pencil studies are also improving, and I like
when you implement some little surprises, like
for example Raffaello's little dagger. Kitana also
likes daggers. I am very satisfied with your progress
and deeds. Because of this, I wish you a Merry Christmas
and happy holidays.

nice work man! your grasp of color and value are improving tons. my only critique process-wise is to work "middle-out" when painting. for example, in the torso guy in your latest post, you started off with a good midtone but in the next step you went straight to the lightest lights and the darkest darks immediately. this may be a good method when you're studying photos but when doing works from imagination, you won't be able to judge your values accurately. my suggestion is to slowly work your way from the midtones, gradually adding lights and darks, with the absolute white and absolute darks added last (icing on the cake, if you will).
here's a link to show you what i mean:

It's just way too magnificent and cool, how that dude
relaxes in a bed with his sexy looking underwear and a
beautiful look in his eyes. The way he body holds, one
can surely tell that he is a freshly baked newly melded fisherman.
He likes to fish in deep south salty lakes waters full of huge amoebas.
Your pencil skills are improving surely and strongly, just like an electric
moving stair rises in a Wallmart. Serenity on those faces can bee seen.
You did surprised the Sasquatch once again with a huge elbow to his back.

Hey Kunfoowiz, sorry for not dropping by earlier.
I can definitely tell that your pencil work is looking better. The lines are more confident now, and more importantly, the figures are starting to create authentic negative spaces.
The 3D work is good, but I think you can do more work on the materials. Also, the tone down the speculars on the floor slabs if you can. By that I mean just select something less 'white' for the specular lighting. The intensity can work if they are moist.
It's good to see you updating regularly, I should've dropped by earlier. Take care.

LtPlissken, if I'm not wrong, that would be the Unreal Development Kit. In short, UDK. It's a beast of a kit, very versatile, and it's also free to use, I believe.
See the kind of games that have been developed with it here:

And if it's a tutorial you want, start here and keep going:

LtPlissken - Haha, thank you for the compliment man, Schumacher is a master though, I'm just a welp! =) Sure, will work on better shadow,

Hi matey
I love a good wander through your book mate Its always interesting, The girls look great but I would have preferred them down the page rather than across the page because I'm lazy and hate scrolling around.
The underwater stuff is high class man pure and simple, the drop off for the light is spot on too I rather liked that.
good work matey I'm glad I dropped by

Hey, mate. Could have swarn I've looked through your sketchbook a way while ago. I'm pretty impressed at how much you've progressed since then, especially with your faces and pencil work.
Oh! And I'm liking your 3D environment things, I haven't the slightest idea about those sorts of areas so they easily impress me. Either way, keep up the good work, mate. :D

I got a feeling that the female portrait in #1446 is
missing a bit of the top of her head, or the hair
is just a bit badly positioned? But as I said earlier,
you are getting better and better with values.
Undersea project is going nicely, I like the feeling
of the dark and murky deep sea. Maybe a bit too
dark and blurry as someone said above, but
generally it's pretty sweet. Right now I think
that you are way ahead in your 3D aspect
than in your 2D drawings and paintings.

are u doing writing and this kind of stuff in 3D ?
the pencil of the this last portrait is very nice, is it finished. (coz i would go further with the rendering)
for the poses, you line quality is good as always, but try more relaxing them. wor'k more the articulation between hips and legs and shoulders and arms.(try to do some anaotmy on those spots)
don't forget to begin your poses with gesture.

Hello!
The painting aspect is getting a lot better. The cat painting was really nice, big step forward there.
There's still quite noticeable drawing errors underneath all that new painting knowledge that I would suggest that you work on.

nice work man. your values keep getting better all the time. my only crit would be is that in the easter bunny illu, you lose the hue variation you had after step 3. when you use a lot of layer modes you sometimes forget that you're supposed to keep introducing new colors into your painting all the time. other than that, keep up the good work!

Youve been hella busy since last time I was here :) some good looking studies good job on that cat :P The figure studies in #1452 are really nice, great form, be careful with your basic form though, one of your sketches in #1463 has the arms layed over the back, back comes over the arms if that makes sense (second sheet far right) the terminator lights can add a lot of realism and you did a really nice job of it on the top left figure of that sheet, keep it subtle :D

The 3D work is looking ace, still a ways to go as far as the figurative stuff is concerned, though.

Nice practice with lighting on that reclining male figure. I also like this pic. Probably old, maybe I skipped a page back, but this one--> http://attachments.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1417088&stc=1&d=1328568432.
I think you could focus more on blind contour sketches, maybe people at cafes, or in scenery. I see you utilize the style of smooth lines-- for ex, in your roller skate sketch. That kind of line confidence can also come from blind contour exercises. And I noticed a lot of your lines are very organic- I think personally I found that to be a problem. It's a strong point when an artist can do that, but the flaw which I found from always having organic lines is that it's missing parts of accuracy that can only be attained from straight line utility. I realized that through much perspective study :). And then I saw what loomis and other artists where saying when they talked about that 'straight to curve' function-- If you use 'quick straight lines' as oppose to smooth "flowy" lines all the time, then I think you will develop another level of confidence to gain more accuracy.
mechanical lines, to organic lines. You'll see how they develop, if you study artist sketches and how the sketch lines overlap and separate.
Just my two cents... peace!!

Great stuff as always bro. Your 3d work is looking quite good. In you drawings you may want to use more overlapping lines to give them more depth, especially when dealing with foreshortening. Right now it seems you focus a little too much on the contours. Just my two cents. Keep it up!

Managed to get a freelance job in animation, yaay! =) Done a few tests for the job and they liked them =)
Okay got a week left to work on all my 3d stuff.. for the life of me I can't figure out how to render stuff in 3ds Max.. the slightest change in a texture jus messes up/crashes, also hair and fur fx is pretty shit in Max, so I'm gonna render everything in Marmoset/UDK/Zbrush as it's more stable =) Here's my creature atm, about 75%'ish done =) Cheers =)
poetry man - Hey man, thank you for advice on my lines. Can see how str lines would give more accuracy. =) Most of the time I'm not aware of what lines I make, I jus draw.. Will practice straight lines in any case. Cheers man =)

You're doing great with your studies; especially awesome to see you doing so much with
3D already too. Your proportions are gradually improving still, though as poetry man said,
your lines are awesome, though aiming for straighter more accurate lines is where you
should focus now. Also, I think that you would benefit from more head and hand studies,
because I notice on your figures how you sometimes avoid drawing much for the hands,
etc. All in all you're doing a great job man, and I love seeing that improvement. Keep it up!
