Ohhhh... I'm still getting used to the layout and topics of this forum.
For some reason, I find the layout really tough to read/navigate and intimidating at the same time but I also think I might need glasses. Anyway!

I was wondering if anyone here has graduated from VanArts, preferably from the game art & design program? I'm really curious as to the level of art you entered with and came out with. I'm also curious if people who have gone to Vanarts considered/taken art courses before applying?

I'm not sure if it'd a good idea to rush into it. Myself, I'm pretty...fresh out of high school. Okay, I've been sitting on the counter and rotting for a bit but I'm really curious to if it would be a better idea to take some college courses before hand before going into the program since it's a one year intensive. I know they're never a bad idea but with time and money...? Vanart's tuition alone is 30k in itself and doesn't provide a degree for working internationally.

I heard Vanarts is really good for getting you ready for the industry but then again, that seems to be the marketing line for almost every school with a similar program. It's simply how much work and dedication you put in, right? But what caught my attention is that while at a boot camp trial run at Vanarts, the instructor at the time emphasized that foundations and life drawings would be number one since... well, you can't really make something look real if you don't know what it looks like. My question is, how much time do they really focus on teaching us that when the course is condensed with 3D modeling?

My goal is to become a concept artist and though even just thinking about the process of getting there is grueling, the instructor at the time added onto it that concept arting is a 'top of the food chain' kind of thing. Is that true? Does someone really need to go through all the 3D modeling before being considered for concept? Or is it just an.. apply and you make it or you don't kind of thing? This applies to my question because I'm trying to decide what is a better option for me: a technical program or a more illustration based program? If the latter is the case, are there any schools in BC that are recommended for this?

I've considered Sheridan in Toronto but the distance is kind of much, especially since I have no family there. And I've also taken AAU in SanFran into consideration since I have relatives who live close by and a friend who is attending their...illustration program I think... But as we know, art schools do cost an arm and a leg and going international is going to be an even bigger debt in the future.

Ummm but I digress! I'm hoping I can find some answers here and I'm really sorry if I'm not clear, I'm not very good at getting my thoughts out.
