Hi guys this is my first post and hopefully not the last :D

Well, I've always love to draw since a little kid and I always had more skill than the rest, though it never was outstanding either.

I never pushed it to the level of getting formal education on the subject, but know I think I want to really do this for a hobby.

I've been playing guitar for a year and I have improved dramatically since I'ven been very consistent and disciplined, and hopefully I would do the same with art.

So I wanted to ask for advice on how getting started on this. I love sci-fi drawings like planets or machines and such and I'd love to be able to draw that kind of stuff, along with buildings or architechture.

I don't plan to enter a college, school or anything, I just want to do it as a hobby, but that doesn't mean that I don't wanna be as hell as good as possible :P

So any advice or tips are welcome :D and also I'd like to know any books that would get me started or some online resource for beginners.

I think the first step is to get some skill on paper and then switch to tablet? Because I'd love to draw on the computer for cost and time reasons :P

Well thank so much guys for your time and advice :D

My advice is to do what you want as much as you can while you're young and single, because that's when you have the most time. You can be a great artist if you put the work into it. If you have something that you feel needs to be said through art, then go for it. If you want to make art a career, go for it. But you'll need to work like hell.

I'd suggest joining the community here - start a sketchbook thread and post on a regular basis. It's a great motivator for self improvement.

Thanks man :D

But I've been years without drawing, what do you recommend to get me started, any books or anything? or start with human shape and then move onto something else??

Also, start with pen and the switch to drawing tablet?

It really depends on your level. Start a sketchbook and post some work. Then we can offer better advice.

I'm pretty much at a very very basic level.

I'll try to post something but I'll take some days I think :P

If you want to draw buildings, you need to learn perspective first. Start with boxes and work your way up.

You can make any kind of 3d objects with all that info in those videos, Gnomon also has some very great videos on the same subject, here: http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/store/product/325/How-to-Draw-Cars

I'd say perspective is the fundemental for all good draftsmanship, but then there's also figure drawing etc. It all depends on what you want to learn.
