loading colors! onto my DS1 or DS lite

help!!
I cant get colors to load even with my R4 card, the computer shows it loaded on the mimiSD card even on a standard SD card, but it wont show load onto my DS, it shows pictures ive saved onto my SD card, but it keeps sayign no cartridge in slot when I open my DS... what am I doing wrong we've even loaded the patch!

please help!!
