I'm using Adobe Photoshop 7. All I want is to be able to draw freakin' lines that i can use for the cube exercise. Like in this example here by AndyT;

The "line tool" (u x 5) makes a line. But I can't use it for anything, I cant make it a color other than black. And I can't copy or rotate them. Or at least I don't know how to manipulate those lines. I figured out that you can make a line by holding shift with the brush tool. But that is a pain, instead of simple lines in Paintshop, where I click the starting point and then drap the end point where I want it. Also, how do I make a square??? I can make one with the shape tools, but like the line tool I don't know how to manipulate those to rotate them. So I have to make a guesstimated (sp) one with the brush. Can someone please help me out. Just a few sentances, HOW you (being an individual that can understand photoshop) would make the lines in the above image. And make a rotated square like above the picture plane? Please, I will be forced to kick my dog in frustration if I can't figure this out.

To make lines, I am not sure what you meant with the brush + shift tool not working like you want, perhaps you werent using it right? If you set the brush to a small size and click any point and then hold shift and click again it will create a line directly between those two points.
1)click and make a dot in point A
2)Shift+Click on destination and a line is created.
Other than that I wouldnt know but I think that is what you are trying to do is it not?

The square I can definitely help you with however, If you hold down Shift while using the rectangular marque tool it will only allow you to make a perfect square, it also works on the oval tool if you want a circle. After you have created the square if you go to transform rotate a menu will appear overhead and you can type in the angle of rotation which in that case would be 45 degrees.

I hope this helps

I think I know what you are getting at.

You have the Line tool in Shape Layer Mode. This means that the lines you are trying to draw are vector images. They are a pain in the arse to use in PS.

What you need to do is change it to Fill Pixels Mode. This will just make the line a standard raster layer.

The way I constructed my cubes was to use the line tool to find all the intersecting points. I then used Guides and placed them on the intersecting points. You then just use the Polygonal Lasso Tool and click away. Fill the selction with you colours and then go from there.

To create guides you need to have your Rulers displayed (Ctrl+R). Then, with the Move Tool selected, click and drag the cursor from either of the rulers onto the canvas. If you look up Guides in the Help File, it will help you out.

Hope that helped :)
