Hi!

Thanks so much for answering my threads everybody! You're so nice to me. :geekg:

I've decided that what I need to do is get away to an atelier or art academy (as opposed to a typical four-year, degree-seeking school) but I just don't have the money to afford a rent over about $400-$600 per month.

I don't know anybody who'd let me rent a flat with them. Should I just try to find a hostel nearby?

Do you know of any good ateliers which have partnerships with local apartment complexes or hotels?

I'm desperate to go somewhere and get educated in art - but this is one hurdle I'm having particular difficulty with, since it seems like most apartments in the proximity of ateliers are more like $800-$1200 a month.

I tried writing to a few of these places and they ignored my inquiries. :P

Thank you! :)

Could the atelier put you touch with fellow future students you could room with?

Failing that, Craigslist.

You didn't say where you're looking to live but you should be at least able to find a room to rent in someone's house for that price or cheaper.

Just work all night and take naps in the corner... everyone will think you are just the most dedicated student ever! No one will suspect you are homeless!

Well... until you start taking showers in the bathroom sinks o.O But of course you do that late at night! So no one will seeee!

There should be websites that are devoted to people looking for house mates.

I know there are a few in my city so perhaps that should be something to check out.

Hi! Thanks everybody!

Yeah, that's a good point - I need to figure out where exactly I'm going! :P
Looking at their websites, all the ateliers seem basically the same... I'd have to move to one in any case.

Are there any ateliers which are considered the best, in the same way that there are animation programs that are considered the best (CalArts, AAU, SCAD, Ringling)?

But maybe I should start a new thread for that.... :(
