So I'm going to a bunch of open houses, and I've found out about a school that is in my state (New Jersey) called the Joe Kubert School of Cartooning. I was considering applying to SVA for their cartooning program, but now also want to check out this Joe Kubert place.

Has anyone heard anything from alumni/know anything about it? It's sort of like a technical/trade school for cartooning, sequential art and animation.

Because of the intensity of the courses, I hear it referred to as the "boot camp of the industry". Comics/Graphic Novels/Conceptual Art/Video Game Art is something I desperately want to do for the rest of my life. Just looking for any opinions or experiences before I head to the open house. SVAs is tomorrow (going!) and Kubert's is next Saturday.

BTW, the schools are equally far from my house (New York is to the east more than Dover, which is further north) time-wise, so it's either an hour and a half by train (ok fine 75 minutes on the rare express I can catch) or an hour and a half to Dover by car.

Back when I lived in Sparta, a close friend of mine was seriously considering this school. I'll talk to him and see what he knows about it. As far as I know, he's still living in NJ now and still drawing.

Actually, Kubert's is having their first Open House this year.

You have to RSVP if you plan on attending.

As for the school, my friend who has entered this year tells me it is pretty work heavy, but very much worth it. I wouldn't know in specific, so I'll be checking out the Open House.

I just RSVP'd yesterday along with a friend of mine who is coming from Philly. She went to the Art Institute in Philly and dropped out because she loathed it... ended up almost totally giving up drawing, and now somehow I've re-awakened her passion.

I will be at the Open House as well. Have you RSVPd / do you live in the area? I'm driving up from Trenton.
