Hi everybody! I'm completely new here, and to be honest I am really intimidated! So many of you are such accomplished artists.

I'm kind of new to art, although I practice at least an hour every day. I'm a primarily digital artist (It's cheaper after the initial program/tablet costs, I think) and recently I've come to find this absolutely beautiful technique, and I was wondering if anybody could possibly help me figure out how this artist colours so very beautifully, both in techiqnue and brushes.

There are a few other artists that do it as well, but none capture my attention so greatly as Miss Witzelsucht.

So far, the only techniques that I can decipher for myself are some cross hatching. Can anybody help me out?

I'm not sure if I can post links to somebody else's artwork, if I can't please let me know and I'll take it down ASAP.

Examples (Not by me, but by Witzelsucht (http://witzelsucht.deviantart.com)):

Not sure what specific technique you're referring to, but in any event the best option is to ask her. Not to be arsey or anything but there are 100 different ways to achieve a specific look and we have no idea which one she uses.

A general rule of thumb for a painterly look is to start with the largest brush possible, and use it until you start to run into situations where only a smaller one will work. Then switch to smaller until it starts to look done to you.

Using a larger brush than you're comfortable with will often force you to use it once or twice, in a strategic direction, whereas smaller brushes will tempt you to paint in all different directions and water down the impact.

And resist smudging completely, except perhaps a few touchups at the very end.

Ah, yes. I've noted her and haven't gotten a reply just yet (no doubt she's busy making more wonderful artworks!) so I thought I'd come here and ask. Thanks for the advice!

Ah, thank you so much! I'll definately try that now. Once I read your comment, I noticed that when I use my default hard, round, small brush that often I water down the colouring too much, I just never pieced it together myself! Thanks again!
