Here's one I did from ref of the sopranos guy (james gandofini or something?). spent about 45 minutes on it then I had to give it up cause it wasn't going anywhere. I need to practise more portraits.

yours perhaps doesn´t fit the person, but mine doesn´t even fit any human :p

no, I´m just kidding. Yud did really great jobs, you two. Mine is supposed to be "mother Theresa"

Jeroentje: That isn't what the DSG is about. Its about drawing the topic when the topic is given... not find old pictures that apply to the topic.

Who else but Trent Reznor. Referenced a screen grab from "The Perfect Drug". Every shot in that video is amazing.

New one added, couldn't stop with that one.

Hi! It's my first time posting a concept drawing on the web. I don't draw very often and that's why it took me 5 hours to draw this picture of top model Ali Landry :P

Been way too long since I've had time to do one of these. ^_^ Anyway, this was a big challenge for me, since it's a lot harder to draw from a 2 inch x 3 inch photo than from a model. But I had such a good idea when I saw the topic this morning that I had to make time.

http://www.microsoft.com/billgates/images/bill-home.jpg

It's Gates of Nine. :D

tayete, chaser, mistere: *great* likenesses.

It's so cool seeing who everyone else thought of as 'famous' or 'celebrity'.

Great topic!
Tried to draw the German actress Franka Potente from this photo:

http://www.rpi.edu/~steadi/dsg/franka-photo.jpg

I decided to try drawing the first portrait upside down because I've heard that it helps one to draw what you see instead of what you think a face should look like. In the process I ended up mirroring the image by mistake (so the original is reversed) and I didn't realize it until I had finished the first one.

http://www.rpi.edu/~steadi/dsg/franka01.jpg

This one seemed pretty deformed, so I gave it another go which I think came out better.

nBT - Awesome! The lip colour bugs me, though, and you lost the peculiar curve of his nose along the bottom, there by the nostrils... but I only mention that stuff because you asked.
Chaser226 - It'd be nice to see that a little more fleshed out. Or even a LOT more fleshed out.
Turokess - I'm likin' that first one a lot. Nice absynthe stuff, face, and reflections.
BartMax - Proportions are a bit off, but otherwise you've got a real bold and involving graphic there. Nice job.
plaf - Good contrast. You could work on that a little more, though... Really bring out the crazy detail in her hair, fix the ear, and show that tiger print?
2kre8 - Yay! Franki's monster! Nice pic.

Beatnik: Thanks hehe I planty had some fun doing the boobs shadows :P

William B. Hand: Thanks for your comments. It's once I took a step behind that I saw some mistakes I've done. But maybe I made these proportions mistakes because I painted it by observing the reference picture in another opened file in Photoshop. I didn't draw guidelines from the reference picture before painting it. Besides that, I wanted to know fo how long have you been drawing and painting in Photoshop? :P Cya! :D

Hey, I've been watching these for a while, decided to finally jump in (been doing a lot of art for school that I'm not too enthusiastic about, been getting wiped out)... anyway, this got my creative juices flowing again. :D

Not that you haven't heard this before or anything, but great job William. The likeness is unmistakable, even WITHOUT hair, which I think says a lot.

macaco - Welcome! Einstein fans are good people.
lance - You may not be happy with it, but I think you perfectly captured Mr.Candy's essence. :D
BartMax - I've been doing art all my life (I'm in my thirties), and I've been working in PS for about 4 years now, I think.

Sorry this took so long. I had to wait for the ink to dry before I could scan it.

I chose Japanese AV Idol Bunko Kanazawa

Unfortunately I drew the profile line of her head at not an acute enough angle, so most of her facial features are a little off. Her lips are probably the worst effected.
