Now that I'm 18 and have finally received my scanner, I hope to update more frequent and don't make promises that are just a bit too high on the ladder for me.
[I]Hey CA,
I have been lurking this site for a pretty long time now and it seems to be a good idea that I start a sketchbook. My motivation is the quick progress most people make in a short matter of time and the fact that I bought a bamboo fun recently
I was 17 years old (when starting this sketchbook) and still in high school, planning to do either industrial design or game design ( probably the last one).
I hope to improve quick by doing daily doodles and maybe joining the teen challenge some times.

I'm back again with some sketch and an experiment
the sketch is semi-referenced and the experiment was.. an experiment :P Tried to work with the brush in artrage but that kinda failed. Could have put some more time in it if I wanted..
If anyone could give me a few pointers about anatomy or some things I might try I would be delighted.
PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FURTHER THIS IS CRAP

Huh? Hi
You probably think your drawings are not so good, but let me tell you that what you've done is way better than what I was, because in your first post you scratch fearless, that's the feeling that you need to get better so keep drawing till your hand collapse (not literally).

SkaterScream Thanks :) decided it needed some colour :)
andres333 Thanks for your words, I came to the conclusion that I should not be so negative about myself, as it is my first digital drawing and my first anatomical drawing :)
A small update, did quite a few gesture sketches but can't upload them right now so here are a few heads instead, mostly dragon like.

I recommend a steady dose of Bridgman and Vilppu, along with a life drawing and painting routine. Wish I was were you were when I was 17...

I think you need a steady dose of anatomy too :)
Bridgman, Hogarth together is what i personally recommend, but there is also Loomis, witch you should look up and see if you're not better at.
You can find tons of art e-books here: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=131117
Update more! :D

Great start. Your creature sketches are awesome. I think I'm going to take their advice and start Brigman, as we can all use anatomy. The more you study the more you will be able to do in 15 and 60 seconds.

I have to admit it guys.. I have been slacking and that's why I made myself a schedule.
After reading a lot of threads on CA I came to the conclusion that I have to do something, a lot of people saying: "I wish I was your age". That means the earlier you start the faster you'll get better.
I ruptured my spleen 3 weeks ago ( friday the 13th :confident) and have been in the hospital for 2 weeks. Luckily I didn't bleed to death and I still have my spleen. Those two weeks were two weeks of slacking and watching tv, while I could have spent that time studying for school or drawing.
So after coming home and installing the photoshop trial I made myself a list. As for now there are 61 items on the list but more is better. Items like animals vehicles landscapes cultures and so on. Every day I'm gonna take one item from that list and start drawing, a lot. I hope I'm able to fill at least two sides a4 with sketches and do a referenced drawing in photoshop starting in greyscale then working in colours.
If you have any ideas for my list I would be happy :) it must be a subject that's not too narrow> pufferfish< but not to broad either like >marine animals<
So I present a drawing from my first subject: tanks!

Hey man, we're the same age. Lists are always a good thing, but make sure you actually go through them and not get distracted. Keep it up! Lots of good stuff here. Just stay motivated and I hope your spleen is okay!

guy, I think you should work on your line quality, your is hard and too numeros, it prevent you from growing because from a moment you won't be able to correct your drawings anymore.
Keep it up!

Eddieee - Sorry man, the list was too demanding for me :(
Twan - Thanks for your comment, I guess I improved a lot after these few months :)
Back again :D
So, in the time that I was away I turned 18, you know what that means in the Netherlands ^^, and I feel like I have improved a lot. Also, I ruptured my spleen after falling from a ladder after a party, luckily it didn't have to be removed. After a week of being in the hospital I was allowed to leave.. just to return the same day because I felt the intense pain again, resulting in another 2 weeks in hospital and a week at home.
Last week I went to Egypt with my parents, brother and girlfriend. Only 2 pages filled in my sketchbook though :( wish it were more but that mission failed, my girlfriend did make a lot of pictures though so that will be enough study material.
Here are some of the studies I promised doing all from photo's, they are rather old (dec 09) but going to scan my moleskine pages later.

Here's a colour study, done during and after today's Crimson Dagger broadcast, of the Cormorant in the last picture of my previous post, not sure if I'm going to finish the left wing and background. Only used the colour picker 2 times, and that was for the log.

Hi everyone :) Some sketches from my sketchbook that I was still going to post here, I know it's just small but I have to note that there is like.. 1 face reffed from Kingkostas and one character ( fat one ) from Cole Eastburn. I have more pages but scanning in all 1:1 Bridgman studies isn't that appealing :) Last one is totally non reffed :D
FUUU image attachment thing :( There should be a button to bulk upload .. More to come..

Oh wow- there's some really great improvement on just this one page! I especially like the photo studies and the last character. He'd look nice done up all purdy! A nice pink bow in his mane perhaps.... just kidding. :) I quite like the design.

Pixie Trick - Thanks a lot for your comment :) I liked it a lot too :D
LtPlissken - That does indeed sound rather nasty but you got your comment :P
It's been some time since my last post, but here's what I did in that time :) A few self portraits, some English cook and applying what I learnt from his face, and a winner :) My mom found that birds skull in the chicken food, so that makes me wonder what they put in there :<

Here are some of my animal brainfarts I made yesterday and today. I really enjoyed drawing those. I did the undead rhino yesterday after doing some of my muscle studies. Today I let my classmate scribble something very swooshy and from that I created the beetle-like animal. A bit like alchemy but without the computers :D
It feels like a hit the next level. Because looking at these makes me realise that I would not be able to do those a few weeks ago.

NickyBeats -Thank you for your kind words, it's a nice motivation to hear that :D
In another thread laurghita proposed drawing people from chatroulette, so that's exactly what I did :) Most people that you do get to talk to are overall pretty friendly.

Hi, nice works! It's fun that the guy with glasses and beard in post 27 looks like myself! Good colour sketches, keep ding them. When doing heads, try to simplify and understand the underlying structure. Then it'll be much easier to keep the right proportions.
Keep up the work man!

Brun - Haha thanks :) no worries colour studies coming soon :)
Abrodos - If the resemblance is that striking, could it be that you have been on chatroulette for the last couple of days ^^? Still need to learn how to do heads but I'm practising :)
jjgmg_O3T78
Here's what I did the last couple of days. More faces from chatroulette and another creature sketch, actually just a pterodactyl but without ref and a grumpy old man which was reffed a little.

It's been some time already since my last post, so time for an update. It's not that much but at least something. First a viking fighting scene from observation. Then a knight from imagination, I tried colouring it with some layers, not really what I intended but ok. And a rhino.

It seems like I've been struck by colour study thunder, now I really enjoy doing them and it's going considerably fast. As soon as I'm able to finish my studies I did at school I'll upload those aswell.
Heres my work of today:
A w.i.p. Knight study from Britishplate.org.uk
A mountain scene ( about 45 minutes)
I also did some pencils but uploading will take some time.

Hey hey, here is the study I promised that I made on school. It's all done with a mouse so hence the crappyness.
The reason that I'm doing a lot of armoured people is that a friend and me are going to do our final assignment for school about vikings :D

Good day :) It seems like I forgot to add the sketches 2 posts back so here they are together with one of the first Loomis exercises. I really want to improve my anatomy and I've been avoiding it for too long. Also some planes :D

Raffix - Thank you much for your kind comment :) It's quite possible that there are gonna be more ravens ^^
Have been slacking majorly, doing silly games and watching tv, while I could have been drawing :(
So yesterday and today I got myself to do some studies of the back, one bw value study and one colour study.

Took a minor break from posting on here ^^ Luckily I did continue my art stuff :D
This is just a minor update as most of my work is at school, just picked a few pages that I liked, this is definitely not all there is to it.
EDIT: pictures were waaaaaaaaaay too big

I just came here because of your tank avatar! Nice looking. I really like this one (http://attachments.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1176219&stc=1&d=1298499794), and hope you're still keeping up with this as no update since Feb. Please update! I agree with NickBeats back there, i think you have mastery potential!
